Happiness is buying all your books for two whole classes, not buying a single one from the U-Bookstore, and paying about half what you would even for used copies from U-Books. And still getting the right translations of various Scandinavian sagas.

*Glees over books*

Geekiness is drooling over an illustrated book on Viking culture, and then over a history of the English language purely because it has a bunch of Old English/Modern English direct translation in it. *Sighs in fond memory*

ETA: Because I'm gleeful and obsessive, I've calculated out the totals. If I had bought everything from the U-Bookstore, getting used copies of everything except the one they don't even list a used price for, I would have spent $113.50... not including tax.

Buying from Magus, Twice Sold Tales, and Half-Priced Books (in that order, since I prefer, if I can, to give my money to Magus), I spent $42.42, not counting tax. Less than half. Unbelievable.

How are you feeling?

A little better, I think. I need to kick this soon. I'm glad my boss knows me well enough to know I'm really sick and not trying to weasel extra vacation time on an already short work week.

Thanks for asking :)

No problem! We've been worrying about you, especially since you thought it might be strep. *Hugs*

Yay for cheap books!

Wow... that's really, really cool.

If I'd bought my ten books from the campus store, it would have cost me from $150 (all used) to $200 (all new). They only had three of them used. I got the first book for $35.25, so I could get a head start reading it.

Then I somehow ran across BigWords.com. It's like a bookstore meta search-engine. Looks at thirty sites and figures out which one will have the best balance between quality and price.

I ended up getting the rest of my books for $80, including shipping and handling. And I could have gotten the one I bought from campus for $5.00. Much grring over that. Not as good a deal as you got, but the used bookstores around me didn't have what I needed.

It was fun. My big box of books arrived on Christmas Eve.

Twice Sold Tales I've been to. What's Magus? Generic used book store, or do they have a specialty? And where are they? Maybe I'll check there for my next class.

Not that I'll be able to buy anything there... I'm officially broke after spending all my money on books at the thrift store. Damn bibliophilia!

Very nice!

Magus is on the Ave, on the street across from Shalimar and Orange King - it tends to be more academic than Twice Sold Tales, but they sell generic books and fiction, too. The people are nice and very helpful, and it's got this amazing feeling of being just crammed FULL of wonderful old books. Absolutely awesome store, and they typically have very good prices.

Damn bibliophilia, indeed. I restrain myself by mostly only buying stuff for classes... sad, but seems to be the best way to do it.

yes, *finally*! Still no place to live, though... Hopefully I won't have to commute for more than a couple days... ;)

And on the plane, my mom sat right next to Ehli (the CSS driver guy) and another woman from the office, whose name escapes me at the moment. The one from Prague. So that was interesting.

YAY! Good job on the discount buying, and you got to give Magus some of the money! YAY!
Have a Happy New Year, and Theo says he misses you! Kisses from the Kitten! If you want to get ahold of me tonight for any reason I will be at Jeff and Kaylee's party for a while, not sure how long because my cold is really trying to drag me down.
Love ya!

Okay! We're having a quiet night at the house, just gonna watch some movies and stuff with Anne and Dora; no big plans. Have fun at the party, and give Theo a big kiss for me!
