I kept getting confused about what day it was, this morning, mostly because I didn't have my seminar today, so I got to sleep in. But also just because things have been a bit wonky around the house.

Tuesday, all hell broke loose on the game and I had a wonderful time spazzing over the DOOM and nearly forgetting to go to my poetry class. It was fun. XD Then yesterday I had a fairly normal day, until I got home. Our upstairs toilet was making weird noises. So, after putting the groceries away, Kari and I went in to investigate. I can't quite remember exactly what happened, but I know it ended with the toilet overflowing, Kari shouting "get up, get up" and me running out of the bathroom to gather up every towel I could find, while Terra and Fey shouted "what's happening?" from the kitchen... and the dog and cat watched with much amusement.

When I got back, towels in tow, the floor of our bathroom was flooded and Kari was kneeling on the edge of the tub, with the shower curtain and rod fallen into the tub behind/under her, reaching over to hold up the little lever inside the toilet tank.

The next few hours were spent trying to call the landlord, then watching Kari get walked through trying to fix the toilet by my dad over the phone, because we couldn't get hold of the landlord and have him call an emergency plumber. During this time, it was also noted that our DSL had died. The modem was checked, Qwest was called, they walked us through fixing it... all while Kari and I still hovered over the toilet. Dinner was made... all while Kari and I hovered over the toilet. I bailed the toilet... and then was berated for finding this entirely laughable. After finally giving up, Kari sopped up the towels while I went downstairs to open the washing machine... and found that toilet-water had come down through the vents onto the downstairs bathroom floor. There was much cursing about this, and a bit of hysterical laughter from me, because apparently that and yelling at the dog are how I cope. >.< Terra and Fey had to go next door to use the nice neighbors' toilet. The towels got into the washer, and dinner was had, after another little hysterical fit by yours truly - I'm really not sure what the hell I was laughing at, but I was at least sane enough to realize that it was Not That Funny. I'm pretty sure it had something to do with Fey's report of our neighbor Barbara's dog, Jack. Then I went to my meeting.

While I was gone, my mum apparently came over and waged epic battle against the toilet, eventually emerging victorious. I'm rather sorry I missed that. By the time I was on my way out from the meeting, all was well again, and Mum was still around to pick me up, and take us to 7-11, where we bought booze and chocolate and called a celebration in honor of surviving the afternoon. I ate ice cream, drank beer and leered at Methos.... I recall making crazy comments about Duncan's hair, too. It was lovely. Oh, and I wrote one of my poems for my poetry class about the toilet incident, forever immortalizing our courage in the face of imperious plumbing.

Today, comparatively, was quite normal. Dad came over to double-check the toilets and see what needed to be replaced in the downstairs toilet, and gave me my summons to jury duty. Yes, I've been Summoned. To the King County Superior Court, no less. Is it sad that I'm actually tempted, just on the basis of novelty?

I am not laughing at your plight, I'm really not.

Great story tho' ;)

And hell, Jury duty, why not? Then you can try it out and see why everyone always complains so much. ^^

Hey, don't bother denying it - I was laughing my head off half the time. ;)

Yeah, that's kind of what I'm figuring. I might very well regret it, though, 'cause it's the week before finals. And I'm supposed to be there at 8am, which is just sort of obscene to me, now. Ah well - should be interesting.

Ewww...yeah, that's early.

You could ah...bring things to study? I hear there's a lot of waiting involved.

I hope that toilets are still doing fine and that my plunging efforts did indeed work! Jury Duty? Each time I've been called I've had to bow out because of work, but make sure you're not late, have heard horror stories from many people I know about being late, or coming back from lunch late while serving for jury duty. L:p

Yup, they're working just fine!

I might still have to back out because of classes, but it's on a day when I don't have class til 1:30, and I have a funny suspicion that if I asked Professor Conroy, she'd probably tell me to do jury duty instead of coming to lecture that day. Maybe I'll test that theory, if the material on the syllabus doesn't look like anything too vital for that day.

I will definitely keep in mind the being on time - makes sense that the courts would be neurotic about that sort of thing. I don't suppose they provide lunch? ;)

Psh. No, it's just that Kari and I both slip into it sometimes, and she's been enforcing the habit on me by using it all the time herself... so it's starting to stick.

I like it, it's cute. I was just wondering. No, they don't provide lunch. But Grandma told me that while she was on jury duty, a woman came back from lunch break 5 minutes late, and when the judge asked her how she had spent her lunch, she said she was buying a dress for an evening out. The judge asked her how much the dress cost, and when she told him--he fined her
the amount of the dress times 5 for holding up the proceedings!

Ah.... the plight of off campus student housing.

Our furnace broke again (yeah, the BRAND NEW ONE), and I just got a brand new toilet. Although I think in might be leaking...
