dear paul allen:
Feb. 15th, 2005 06:41 pmForgive me, people who will be insulted by this, but no - "Enterprise" should not be saved. No, Star Trek is no longer about "tolerance and hope." It stopped being about that when you decided that a primary drawing-power of this latest series was strangely slutty Vulcans in tight outfits, and "decontamination" scenes (in the first fecking episode) that pointlessly sexualize the characters before we even get to know them. No, I haven't seen much of it - I've seen about a total of one episode, honestly, because I just can't bear to actually watch it. It hurts. It combines everything I hate about just about other Star Trek series, and adds a few new ones, to boot.
Casting Scott Bakula was another mistake, but I won't get into that.
I have never agreed with UPN's policies before, but on this one, I stand with them - it needs to END. Let the franchise die, please. It's had a long run, but I'm sick of the tripe it's been putting out the last few years. I loved it in my day - I still love the stuff from the old days. But this is just getting ridiculous.
Paul Allen... if you pay up money to keep this thing on the air, I will be so very sad to share my beautiful city with you. So. Sad. Look at it this way - if it dies, you can buy more props for your wonderful museum. And then, the next time I visit it, I can bitch about those props taking up space that would be better served by series that didn't hearken back to the bad old days of Trek that focused on sex, bad acting, and lack of continuity.
These are the days when I'm ashamed to say "yes, I was once a Star Trek fan."
Also, fuck Livejournal with a pineapple. What good is an online journal if you can't update or comment on anything without it saying "oh, sorry, not right now" every single damned time?????
