I solemnly swear that I will never again return a set of DVDs in which I have avid interest (particularly a set that cost me $11.something to rent from Scarecrow) without fucking double- and triple-checking to make sure that I have seen every second of potentially important extra footage on the damned disks. If my computer decides that she hates the interviews, I will move upstairs and muck my way through using the PS2 controller to navigate. If that fails, I will sit there patiently until one of my housemates comes home, and then beg them to do it for me.

Why?

THIS is why. Because damn it, the final, edited ending sucked compared to what they apparently originally had to work with, and their editors are assholes for not sticking with it as originally planned. Grrrrr.

I'm glad there are people out there who are smarter with DVDs than I am, that's all I can say.

Also, I'm amused that everyone has their own theory of what the cover of HBP indicates - I've so far heard that Dumbledore is dead (which I thought all the way back in OotP), and that Snape is dead (more sensible, in my opinion, because of the Potions text. I, however, believe that this vindicates my theory on the identity of the half-blood prince: it's so Snape, folks. I'm telling you, he's the long-lost grand-son of Rasputin and the last czarina of Russia. It all makes sense, now, doesn't it?

Oh, come on. Just humour me. ;)

Right. Working on paper, now.

And Happy International Women's Day!!!

ETA: Okay, I get the confusion, now. See, there's the normal cover and there's also the British 'adult' cover. So what does this tell me? Well, obviously, the pensieve will be important. And potions. And Dumbledore. And possibly Snape. I'm siding with the folks who suggest that Snape dies in this one, even though by story!logic, it's time for good ole Dumbledore to kick it... because just by saying that, I will probably ensure that no, she'll kill Dumbledore. Just to 'spite' me. So there!

I think it's Dumbledore who buys it this time. I recall JKR saying in an interview a couple of years ago that we'd find out more about Snape in Book 7, which strongly implies that he'll be there till the bitter end....

Ooo, good point. And good for her for following proper story format, damn it! The mentor must die before the hero can step up, and Dumbledore is the only real even quasi-reliable adult figure in Harry's life, aside from the Weasleys. Which is to say that I hope she kills Dumbledore rather than, say, Arthur Weasley....

Awww, poor Snape. I don't know why, but I love the nasty old bastard.

...Well, okay, Alan Rickman is probably part of the reason. But the other part was "Snape's Worst Memory." I could nver hate the guy after reading that. It doesn't excuse the bastard he is, but it sure as hell makes me understand him, and I can't resist loving him.

I should just have a t-shirt made, honestly - "I Fall for Reformed Evil." ...But only in fiction, thank the gods.

I was the target of similar hatred in high school, only from the druggie clique. But it still hurt. A lot. And that's why I may hate what Snape does to Harry, but I sure can see where he's coming from.

That's it exactly. I was never exactly hung upside down or hit with soap bubble charms, but I was definitely not a popular kid. And considering the amount of work it takes me to even see someone from my highschool (other than a very few of my friends that I've stayed in touch with) without feelings of panic, fear, and a desire to lash out... yeah, I understand Snape very well.

Poor Snape, I only saw one cover, it was on the today show this morning and it had Dumbledore and Harry staring into what looked like some type of potion.
What was the other one?
I'm sure you already saw that Mt. St. Helens erupted just a little bit ago. Not a huge one, but exciting all the same.

Supposedly the 'read-only' problem will be fixed over the next few days - it's a problem with one of the servers, and they claim they're getting it fixed.

I think the "potion" is a pensieve - there's links to both covers up in the entry, so you can see them if you want.

Oohh, I like the Adult British cover best!
Definately would lead you to believe that Snape is the Half-Blood Prince, eh?

Me too - too bad it's not available in this country.

*Snickers* Not really - I'm pretty sure it's going to be a new character we haven't met before. I just like to make jokes about the whole "grand-son of Rasputin and the last czarina" thing. ;)

Why CAN"T Snape be the half blood Prince?
Doesn't seem THAT far fetched to me.

No real reason - I just assume it'll be a new character because so far she has yet to use something or someone we already know for the title. Obviously no one knew anything for the first book, but the Chamber of Secrets, the Prisoner of Azkaban, the Goblet of Fire... we'd heard of the Order of the Phoenix before, if I recall, but we didn't know much about it.

More than anything, Rowling has a tendency to make up new characters for each book rather than really developing the characters she has. Like randomly creating Luna in book 5, when she could just as easily have developed one of the previously-mentioned female characters into someone actually worth looking at. But no, she had to make up a totally new thing.

Of course, I could be completely wrong on this one. I'd be happy to be, in fact, in this case.
