Theo-cat has been making occasional breaks in the direction of the back door, and yesterday he managed to actually get onto the porch outside, so I decided it was time to quit putting off buying him a harness. (I've tried three different kinds of collars, to no avail - he either gets them right off or gets them caught on his lower jaw) Went to the pet store today and bought him a pretty red harness, came home and put it on. Getting him into said harness was enough of an endeavour, but now he's running all over the house trying to attack his pet ID tag, rolling on his back trying to get the harness strap in his mouth, etc.

It's not pretty. He is a very undignified kitty at the moment. I'm hoping he'll calm down by tonight, or at least by tomorrow.

Aww. I have to keep a collar on the larger of my two cats, Marco, because he does the mad door dash sometimes too--I chased him all the way around one of our apartment blocks once before he stopped. I put collars on both the cats when they were younger though, so they don't mind them that much. I hope your cat calms down soon! Cranky cats are no fun.

I only got Theo a few months ago, as an adult from the local shelter, so sadly he's not used at all to wearing a collar of any sort. He'll get used to it soon, though, I think - he's a pretty laid-back kitty. ;)

Wow that's really scary, I'm glad you got him the harness. He'll get used to it, it'll just take some time. Did you get it at petco? I've been wanting to get one for Snape. I would like to be able to take him places sometimes. If I had a harness and leash, I think he might like to go places sometimes. (and then Missy would get an occasional break from him too.)
Keep us posted how he's doing, I'm very interested.

You named your cat Snape? Oh dear. I assume he's a black kitty?

My roommate nicknamed one of my cats "Malfoy." He's a flamepoint Siamese with pale blue eyes and a sneaky mindset, so it fits....

Yup. I named him Snape, and he's black with a thunderbolt design of white on his chest(which I suppose most people would say I should have named him Harry, but.....) He's such a love, and my very special boy. "Malfoy" is a wonderful name for a siamese, what's his real name?

His real name is Hunter Moon. His breeder thought he was born during the hunter's moon, but it turned out he was born during the green corn moon. I thought Green Corn was a dumb name, so Hunter he remained :) And the Malfoy came after my roommate noticed what a sneak he was....

uhmmm..yeah, Green Corn would be a funny name.
I absolutely love Hunter Moon though. When you think about it, it really is a good cat name.

He's a good cat. Insane, but good.

Yeah, he's already doing better. Yup, got it at Petco, and I'm thinking once he's used to the harness I'll consider getting him a leash. I wouldn't use it too often (I don't want him getting used to being able to go outside), but since I don't have a carrier yet, I like the idea of having a very reliable way to hold onto him if I ever need to be able to control him on short notice.

Getting Snape a harness and leash sounds like a great idea - I'm sure he'd love it!

The more I think about it, I am going to get one for Missy too.
The way she hides, she is impossible to catch if she's scared (like when the apartments do a fire alarm, or when she needs to go to the vet.) If there ever really was a fire I wouldn't be able to catch her. A harness and a leash could save her life. I KNOW she won't like it at first, but it's a really good idea. Thanks for the thought!
