Snagged from [livejournal.com profile] ellid:

'This is a huge nationwide concerted effort to destroy everything we believe in... It forces Christians back into the church. That's what's going on in America. The world is too bad and I'm going to get inside this building and I'm not going to play in the world. That's not what Christ asked us to do.'

No, you asshole, it's a 'huge nationwide concerted effort' on the behalf of everyone who isn't a psycho fundamentalist to get you lot to stop talking for us and telling us that your religion is the only way to go, and that everyone must be bound by your religious laws. Fuck you.

I didn't feel knowledgeable enough on the Terri Schiavo case and all the ins and outs to say or do anything, before. After reading that article, I may not know where I stand on the whole case, but I definitely know who I stand against.

People can have whatever religious and moral beliefs they want, but our constitution was written to ensure that they can't enforce those beliefs on those who don't agree. You bet I want the church out of politics - I've seen what happens to intellectual freedom, women's rights, and the rights of anyone not of the dominant religion when they're allowed in.

...It strikes me that I should reaffirm - I have nothing against Christians. It's the asshole politicians who claim to speak for all of you who piss me off.

Oh, and this, too, from the academics_anon community: Because it'd be great if universities had to crack down on 'leftist' professors and shut them up to prevent lawsuits. Say goodbye to the freedom of college educations, everyone. As if public highschools weren't bad enough, now they're trying to keep college profs from having freedom to speak their minds, too.

It is not a good night for politics. I'm going back to reading my book.

He really is a moron, isn't he? And given his own ethics problems, probably not much longer for Congress.

Boo bloody hoo.

Methinks the fellow is trying to make the biggest stink possible before he gets the axe, perhaps. And I just realized I forgot to credit you for that link! *runs to fix*

Although he has had his own ethics problems, as you point out, he probably will get back in, because the religious right care more about how he votes than how he lives his life. That's what I see anyway. Unfortunately.

You'd think he'd have the grace to resign, but tact and good sense don't seem to enter into the equation, alas.

Hell, I am a Christian and I still want people like Tom DeLay and Rick Santorum and Bill Frist to shut up and go away and never be involved in politics EVER again.

And the thing about the college professors makes me absolutely sick. They really are trying to turn America into a place like Soviet Russia. Or something.

*headdesk*

That's the thing - this isn't offensive just to non-Christians, it's offensive to all the Christians who disagree with these bastards and have to listen to them claim to be the voice of all Christianity. It's sickening.

I know. When university professors start being censored and silenced, that's one of the BIG warning signs of a truly oppressive regime.

Jesus would be sickened by these people. They care for nothing but their own pockets and their own desires. His instructions to feed the sick, care for the poor and the imprisoned, and live humbly while loving one's neighbor are completely ignored in favor of making the rich richer and forcing a man to keep his brain-damaged wife alive.

Talk about whited sepulchres!

With the Terri Shaivo case all anyone is seeing are little clips of tapes of her. I feel that anyone involved in making a decision in this case should have to spend a couple days at the very least, in her room to see exactly what her quality of life is/or isn't. I would never want to say one way or another without them doing that because it's different from so many of theses cases. She isn't brain dead. It all comes down to quality of life and how can you tell what her quality of life is from a 5 second video clip? But I DO know for certain that the Government has no business being involved! If they are allowed to make this decision, it will only get worse, until we have no say in what happens to our loved ones lives or our own lives.
