Claire had an operation. We're not totally sure what her new name is, but it seems (*knocks vigorously on wood*) that she has survived the reformat and update to XP Professional without too many problems.

Main problem being that McAffee is a bitch and won't let me re-download because I didn't get their "extended" thingy last time I renewed. Screw them, I'm getting something different this time. I'm not sure whether I'll get Norton or Semantec - any recommendations people have to offer would be great, I'd especially like to get something not hugely expensive. But still, you know, actually good. I want this new incarnation of my computer to stay healthy, damn it!

Wait, can't you get anti-virus software for free from UW?

Ah, can we? I'll have to look into that. T'would be a hell of a lot more convenient, that way.

AVG is wonderful and free! So, who helped you re-format?
I'm so glad you were finally able to do it, YAY!

Turns out we can get virus software from the UW (wish I'd known before shelling out for McAffee the last two times.... ah well), so I did that.

Dad came by and helped after giving me the XP disk.

Even though you don't need to know anymore, I also recommend AVG. Last time I looked into it (about a year ago) AVG was actually getting better and more frequent updates than Norton (which had long been the place to go for new viruses). Though the latest version is really annoying in it's lack of options.

Okay! I'll definitely keep an eye on AVG, when/if I have to replace this one. Frequent updates are definitely a good thing, when it comes to virus software. I was late to class this morning making sure that mine was set for automatic updates. ;)

Yes, AVG updates everyday. I really love it!

Well, Norton has been pretty good for me, except for one little glitch where it tells me my subscription is expiring "soon" -- the date it gives for the expiration? something like 4/12/47

...yes, soon...soon my...virus software...

...did computers even exist then? o-o

Unless maybe it means 2047? Hey, I wouldn't complain if you've got 42 years!

Maybe Norton judges 'soon' on a geological timescale? *g*
