I have a very beautiful turquoise ring that I love to pieces, but I'm afraid to wear it very often because the stone seems loose in the setting. It's never actually come out, but I'm always afraid it will.

Anybody know of a good (and cheap!) way to fix it or place that might be able to fix it?

Additionally, I'm pleased to say I've been actually been watching Stargate SG:1 and really enjoying it, as opposed to just catching tiny bits of it, like I used to, and being interested if slightly bemused. I watched it some way back when, but I think it was one of those things that Fox cancelled, and we didn't get the Sci-Fi channel when I was in highschool... and then I kind of gave up TV when I came to college, so I never got the chance to catch up.

Also watched an episode of Andromeda today, for mocking value. God was it unintentionally hilarious. Oh, and narsilion? Katie is still on the show. It's sad... I remembered her as so cute and amusing, but not so much anymore. :/

I really need to make some new icons.

Depends on what you define as cheap, and what the metal is. If it's a higher quality metal (like gold), a jeweler can tighten the prongs. I think that ran less than $20. If it's silver, someone may be able to do the same, but I'm not sure where to go for silverwork, though a standard jeweler might be able to work with it. (Altering silver jewelry is more complicated. For example, they are difficult to resize and most jewelers we worked with during my time at the jewelry store wouldn't get near it. But tightening prongs may be all right.)

I wish it was as simple as prongs. It's silver, and the turquoise is held in just a round... ledge, I guess. I'll show it to you tomorrow, if we manage to get together. I might have to just hope, and be ready to do something sick like glue it, if it falls out.

I think I remember the ring you're speaking of, I have some superglue, and if we're careful, and squeeze a little around the edges at the under-side of the ring, I think that will do the trick, 'cause I think the stone is only held in with some kind of glue in the first place. Nice ring, but cheaply made.

Maybe bezel setting as shadawyn has suggested. I don't remember where you got that ring. Did you get that one from Paula, or was that one from when you were younger?

I think I got it from stormwolf - I actually didn't think you'd ever seen this ring, so I'm not sure it's the one you're thinking of. I'll show it to you, next time you see it. You might be thinking of the turquoise bracelet that Paula gave me - it has the same problem, sometimes. Pity - they'd be a beautiful set if I could ever feel confident enough to wear them for a long time.

Anne and I fiddled with it this evening while she was over, and it turns out it's actually secured in there somehow - it wiggles, but we actually tried to pry it out and it wouldn't come. So yay! My ring is safe. *G*

And yes, it definitely is. I've only just started really paying attention to it, and Sci-Fi shows the episodes all out of order, so I have a lot of blanks. Still fun though. *g*
