I just practiced on my guitar for the first time in a year.

When I first picked it up, I could only remember the first two notes of my favorite song. I almost put it right back in it's case, but I made myself pull down the book, find the right page, and struggle through relearning which note went to which key (singing the notes helps me, since it's a song I know well) until finally something clicked into place and my fingers were finding some of the right positions without my knowing what they were doing. Then I played through again and again until I managed it three times almost perfect.

Owie. The fingertips of my left hand hurt.

o_O

Perhaps now is an appropriate time to mention that I have never at all been good at the guitar, and, in fact, am mostly (nay, entirely) clueless about most of the 'culture' surrounding said instrument?

From my experience the culture of the instrument involved learning to play Nirvana and wishing you could play Hendrix right.

*Snickers* Better than mine, which is mostly playing the same damned simple acoustic tunes over and over and over and over, trying to figure out how to make my fingers work independently of each other and mostly failing miserably.

Probably about where I'd be if I picked mine back up. Last time I tried I had forgotten what I had managed to learn.

That's what made me so happy about picking up the guitar this time - I'd forgotten everything, but at least one song managed to come back pretty fast. So maybe there's still hope.

Go you! It's always great picking up something that you've left off for a while.

Now, I expect that we shall all be treated to a stirring rendition of "The Star Spangled Banner" on July 4th! =P

Maaaaybe... I can theoretically play that, but it was never one of the songs I was actually good at. And, as I keep mentioning, I'm crap. So it's a good thing that was (hopefully) a joke. ;)

It really did feel nice to pick it up again, though. Hopefully I'll be doing it again tonight - I've got a lot of time to make up, plus trying to get a bit better, too.

I never joke, Jen. Ever.

I'm sure you'll do fine. ^_^

At least not about humiliating me with my guitar? ;)

Oh no. Never that.

(I see you got that icon to work, by the way.)
