Too tired to deal with people being assholes, but here goes anyway.

That thing about the cat? Bunk, pure and simple. Her apparent excuse is that she was trying to prove to her dad that there are nice people in the world. Yeah, there are, bitch, and you just made a bunch more of them into cynics who don't trust people who ask for help, and reaffirmed for those of us who already are that you just can't fucking believe people. She's apparently refunding the money (good idea, twit).

Also, I hope karma doesn't decide to bite her in the ass by making something actually happen to her poor cat. It's not his fault his mommy wanted to prey on people who try to do something nice.

My previous post will be deleted, because fuck if I want more people finding their way to her selfish little imaginary pity party. If you insist on being an attention whore, at least do it without bringing an innocent into the equation. Munchausen by proxy is one of the more sickening practices I know of, and I can't express how fucking pissed off I am by this.

Good. Just some moron trying to get attention, basically.

No - I was thinking of the situation where people pretend their child has a terminal or degerative illness to get attention. I might have gotten the name wrong, I'm sorry if I gave the wrong impression - it's been quite a while since I took psychology.

munchhausen's by proxy is when you actually make the child (well, usually a child) ill to get attention.

Bah, that's right. Thanks for the correction - I'm way too tired to be writing this shit, clearly.

I went out and googled the phrase, and what I came up with is that munchausen's by proxy means to fabricate, exaggerate, or induce a condition in the person under your care. So I believe you got it right.

I'm a little upset, but I was skeptical when I made the donation. I figured if she really needed help, she needed the help. If she didn't I haven't inconvenienced myself, and she gets the bad karma. I did the right thing.

I'm more embarassed that may name is associated with the scan than anything else, but I suppose if I'm stupid for being kind, I'm willing to be stupid every once and a while.

I was a little skeptical, but for some reason I squashed my normal cynicism. I'm a sucker for hurt animals. It just makes me sick that she used the fact that a lot of people are.

I know what you mean by the cynical part. I've seen this happen so many times that I just don't believe in anyone petitioning for money online.

I didn't give her money (I have no paypal account), but I did comment to her, and I did link to her entry, and one of my housemates gave a bit of money, which I was thinking of paying a portion of.

Mostly I'm just pissed off at her for doing something so careless. Making up a lie about something horrible happening always feels to me like asking the universe to pay it right to you and give you exactly what you 'asked' for. So to me, something like that reads as her not caring enough about her cat to feel that it'd be bad to risk something horrible happening to him, as well as using the good will of people who are concerned over hurt to an innocent animal. Granted, that's my superstition, and it probably has no bearing on her world view. But it still drives me nuts.

*sigh*

It's hard enough to get past cynicism these days anyways, and it sucks to see someone abuse genuine goodwill by either not thinking their actions through, or just being a self absorbed bitch ;)

One way or the other, this girl has completely stuck her foot in it. A healthy dose of cynicism has been useful in any age - I comfort myself by remembering that this is the way it's always been. There have always been people preying on the kindness of others, as often as there are those who genuinely deserve help.

If she was trying to prove that there are nice people in the world, then I guess she succeeded. Of course, now she's going to find out how not-nice nice people can be once they get mad. Also, I think she never read any of those 'cry wolf' fables when she was a kid.

It is just such a shame that you can't believe in anything anymore. But it just takes one to ruin it for everybody, really >->

Yeas she did indeed show how many nice people there are in the world, but sadly, because of her, most of them have become at least a little more cynical than they were before their encounter with her.

And this is why I didn't donate anything. Until it's been varified, I don't trust personal charity drives on the internet.

I tend to think that any individual (and more than a few organizations) who put up money drives on the 'net, are trying to cheat people in some way or another. Mmmmm... I love the smell of cynicism in the morning.

grrr i dont blame you for being angry, and i am pretty pissed myself! i saw her post from your entry and from someone else, and was so sad to read her entries about her poor kitty and her fighting with her dad and racing off to take him in to the vet and to see him. I thought about donating, but know how people like to just make up "paypal drives". so i went and read a bunch of her journal and her entries about the cat seemed really sincere! plus, the fact that she (or so she said) didnt come up with the paypal idea herself..but said a friend suggested she do it.. well, she succeeded in convincing me. and i was going to paypal her like $10 when I got paid (not a lot, but i figure its still nice since i dont know her at all or anything, and a little is better then nothing.)... when i got paid, which is TODAY.. so I'm glad at least that I found out now. I wish you hadnt deleted the link to her entry though, because now I'd really like to go flame her. =P

jerk.

Well, you can consider her flamed, when I was reading her post admitting what she had done yesterday about this time, she had 779 comments, and though I stopped reading them after a while, most of them were pretty bad!

I want it to be 780! haha ;) thanks for letting me know. I feel a little better knowing she is having to deal with all that for her ridiculous actions. I hope she learned something from the experience, and I really hope everyone gets their money rightfully refunded.

Most of the posts that I saw did mention that they had gotten their money refunded at least.

I had a feeling it was fake, for the main reason that: people who set cats on fire don't put them out. Even if they're going to get caught, they just get themselves away from the scene.

I can't say this changes my opinion of people any, really. Scam artists are everywhere and always have been, they can just reach more people by the internet. As someone else on my friends list said, if people are going to lose their faith in humanity over a girl scamming over a cat when there are so many worse and far more deceitful things out there, that's their problem. And maybe I'm being harsh, but I can't understand how people can let a fraction of the entire human race determine their outlook on life. Yes, it sucks that some people were taken advantage of, but that happens. And it happens to everyone, in one way or another. I know I've been taken advantage of massively, by friends and strangers alike. But that's them. They're the ones who chose to be asshats. And they don't dictate my life or how I look at life. That's me.

I know I'm off on a tangent, but I'm sick and tired of people not being able to take personal responsibility for their own opinions. Sure our opinions are influenced by other people, but when it comes right down to it, we make our own choices and form our own opinions and ideas. No one else.
