About twenty minutes ago, I heard a funny high-pitched buzzing. Traced it down to the source and, with Kendra's help, figured out it was the fire alarm at the abandoned school across the street from my house. Waited, watched the firemen go in and turn it off, then convene for a while talking about it, and leave.

Now it's going again. What the fuck???

If you hurry, [livejournal.com profile] zinjadu, you could probably get here before they leave again... Yup, there's the sound of their truck. They must not've even gotten back into the fire-house yet.

Abandoned as is never going to be used again, or as in a facilities building or everyone's gone home for the summer?

I could give you a few common possiblities as to why it is doing that, but human and non. Also it depends on the noise, if it a full out fire alarm or the pull acuator cover disturbance alarm.

I don't know, really - it was kind of a high-pitched buzzing sort of thing, not a real alarm. The school is actually out of commission, has been for a year and a half or so. There's been talk of making it into a community center or something, but nothing's happened yet.

Either way, at least it stopped. At least it happened during the day...

Without having heard it myself, I suspect the noise was the pull handle cover alarm. They're recent-- we had them MAYBE the last couple years of high school. If the alignment of the plastic cover over the alarm is disturbed in any way, it buzzes REALLY annoyingly. Mom's kids were really good at disturbing it playing wallball.

As evidenced by the time at which I'm replying, I'm waaaay too late. I've been reading "Finding Serentiy" all day and am very, very geeky. Such is life. Or at least mine.
