Next year's season at the Paramount:

http://www.theparamount.com/season/broadway.asp

I'd better start putting aside money now, hadn't I? *g*

Edited to Add: There's a video/audio trailer for the show up on the official 'Wicked' website. It's so funny, I know the songs so well, but that's the first time I've ever actually seen any of it before!

I would like to ask the opinion of [livejournal.com profile] nekokoban and [livejournal.com profile] sigelphoenix, though - what do you guys think of the new voices? They're both adorable girls, fit the parts physically very well, and Galinda's voice is pretty good... but I'm sooo spoiled by the original cast that the singing, especially from "Defying Gravity" is making me twitch big-time. XP

'Wicked' has been showing here in Chicago for awhile now, and from what I hear, it's well worth seeing. The book is rather good.

Damn... I wish things would get out to the West coast faster. I loooove that show. The book was definitely worthwhile, but for sheer emotional intensity I have to vote for the musical as being better.

Sweeeeeeet. I've had "No Good Deed" stuck in my head all day, so this is just a "Wicked"-filled day all around.

I've never heard it before, but I think I'll like it and I so need to go see a show soon. It's been waaaaay too long. I also hopped over to Ticketmaster and got some alerts set up. The one I'm hoping for is The Lion King. I need to see that show.

You need to at least hear some of the soundtrack if you haven't yet, the music is fabulous.

...Although I just watched the promotional trailer for the traveling company and... uhmmm.... eep. I'm so spoiled by the original cast the new leads made me cringe. Damn.

New cast? Dang. But still, seeing it live would be cool~

Yay! Trailer!

Idena Menzel and the other girl left a few months ago. Sooooooo sad. I hope they come back, eventually, after they've taken a break.....

Maybe~

Idena's gotta recover from doing the Rent movie and all. Girl's voice prolly needs a well deserved break.

Girl's voice is better than any I've heard in a long time, so she'd damned well better take breaks - I expect to be hearing that voice singing good songs for a long while yet, thank you very much. *G*

Ick. As I recall, Lion King came to Seattle in the winter of 2003-4, so it may not be back for a while. :/

Okay, now I'm home and have gotten a chance to see the trailer, and ... hmmm. They're good singers, certainly, but they sound a little ... old? mature? polished? I just really love how -- especially in "Defying Gravity" -- Elphaba sounds really *raw*, almost desperate. Of course, we have been listening to the soundtrack pretty closely. Even if we were to see Idina Menzel and Kristen Chenowith live, I think it would sound a little odd. :P

I've lucked out because every musical I've gotten to see live, I hadn't heard the soundtrack for a long time before that, so I didn't have the rigid expectations. Although, who knows, by next September we may have gotten a little distance from the Wicked soundtrack. Not like it would stop us from going, either way. :D

That's what I've been trying to find a way to express! Thank you!!! The difference really is the rawness and emotion that Idina (I really never can spell that poor woman's name...) puts into the songs - the closest I'd come to figuring out how to say it was that it was lacking the right levels of emotion. It really is the desperation that's missing, though - technically, it's all there, the notes are right and everything. It's just not... Elphaba.

Yeah, hopefully a year will give us enough distance to experience it all if not exactly 'new', then at least with fresh interest. And there's always something to be said for the magic of actually seeing everything for the first time.
