"You must defend your cheeseball stories," she implores. "Because people believe in the power of love. And community. We create joy out of nothing. That’s more than [your critics] can say."
This is actually pretty good advice, as dumb as it sounds. One of the biggest things that I try to take to heart from all the writer's manuals I've read is "you have to give up the fear of writing crap." It holds true in all of life. Embrace the cheesiness... don't be afraid to make a fool of yourself. Be fearless, be clumsy, be nerdy... be a cheeseball.
