Gary Oldman in costume!
Warner Bros have kindly requested that this picture of Gary Oldman as Sirius Black is taken down, as it does not truly portray Sirius as he will be in the movie. It's for the better!

So apparently they got sick of the nasty emails from rabid Sirius-fans. I, for my part, will happily do my part to erase this whole thing from the fandom's memory. ;)

For those who didn't get to see it before I took it down... don't feel too bad. It wasn't anything you wanted to see, anyway. Pretend it never existed.

For those of us non-Potter initiates, who is Sirius, and what should he look like?

Ah, yes. Well... okay, technically, there's nothing about this guy that wouldn't fit the description given in the book. Because JKRowling is notoriously vague about descriptions, and because what there is of it does really fit.

The problem is the mental image that readers have developed.

Sirius is supposed to have long black hair and be very ragged-looking. He's an escapee from a special prison. So it's not a matter of detail... it's a matter of overall appearance. *shrugs* I really don't know how to explain it any better than that.

So now you have to post how the picture was wrong, for those of us that didn't get the chance to see it.

Though, I, however, have a hard time believeing there was anything wrong ever with any picture of Gary Oldman. He's great.

I wouldn't have thought there could be anything wrong with Gary Oldman either--from what little I've seen him in, I've loved him. And this... is obviously not his fault. It's clearly the makeup and hair people having some serious delusional epsiodes, or something.

I've also been told by a few people that it's not that bad. Matter of opinion, I suppose, but the first few people who commented to me about it (as in the people who gave it to me, and the first few that I showed it to) were totally freaked out.

Okay, now I've seen it. And you know what? I think it works. Is the problem that people want him to be more attractive or something? I mean, he's been in crazy-prison for a long time... of course he's going to have a beard! :) ;) :p

*blushes* Yeah.... like I said in a previous reply, it's not really that it doesn't fit the descriptions from the book, or anything like that. It's just so far away from how I picture Sirius.
