Alright... who's the funny guy passing the rumor that "Voldemort" means "rat of death?"

It's not Voledemort. And even if it were... I doubt that's the French word for 'rat.' I'm away from my dictionary, but the online one I found says "rat" in French is... "rat." Masculine noun.

If I've made some grave translation error, do feel free to correct me. I'd feel like one hell of a fool if this turns out to be somehow weirdly true, but I'll hold on to it meaning "flight of death" or "flight from death" until someone proves me totally wrong.

Nah, the only rat of death is Pettigrew. And he's more like the rat of great annoyance.

It means those latter two, but it can also have different connotations as 'vol' means both 'flight' and 'to steal'.
