general update
Oct. 6th, 2005 10:42 amI signed up for Nanowrimo again. For those who don't know, that's a yearly festival/contest of sorts where people all over the world try to write a 50,000 word novel in the month of November, and share the pain, the angst, and the joy over at the Nanowrimo page (www.nanowrimo.org). How many other wrimos (??) do I have on my friends-list? I know
shadawyn is over there - anybody else?
This year I'll be trying to crank out my Charlemagne-era novel, with the stuff I've already written being considered prep-work, not counted into the word total (alas).
On the BPAL front, I wore 'Lightning' on Tuesday and 'La Belle au Bois Dormant' (the beauty of the sleeping wood) today. Lightning is a really nice watery scent, but not something I'd wear for absolutely every day, and La Belle, although beautiful when I first put it on, seems to fade within a few hours, to the point where I can barely smell it. Disappointing, that, but it'd still be worth it if the first few hours of my day weren't spent doing digital recording of a class in a room full of asshole athletes. Definitely an evening or weekend (or quick pick-me-up) scent. I think I'll wear 'Invocation' tomorrow - I'm really looking forward to that one.
Also, has anybody else read Barbara Ehrenstein's book Nickle and Dimed? It's a really interesting sociological type work, but I'm getting just a teeeeensy bit tired of her going on about how impossible it must be for people to handle all these jobs and live on this income. Welcome to my life, lady. I realize her point is that it sucks a hell of a lot more for all these people who are adults and trying to support families like this, but I'm seriously getting a "ohmigod poor me I must return to my ivory tower because I am the princess who has fallen and it's so HARD in the real world!" kind of vibe off her. Blargh.

Date: 2005-10-06 06:55 pm (UTC)I'm not going to push, since I know everybody's busy this year. Hell, I don't even know where I'm going to find the time, I'm just determined to actually get stuff done on this stupid novel, and this is the best way I can think of to do it!

Date: 2005-10-07 05:08 am (UTC)Is there a place where non-writing folks like me can read peoples work, or maybe portions of it?

Date: 2005-10-07 05:22 pm (UTC)Everybody's writing actually remains completely private, unless they choose to post an excerpt or two on their profile. My excerpt would probably be the piece I've already posted here in this journal, so it wouldn't be anything new. The thing with Nanowrimo is completely about word count, not anything else... hence it's appeal. ;)
