Where the fucking hell is the fucking brain bleach when I fucking need it?

I've had two instances today of fanfic that made me go "...bwah?" One was just a moment of me much wishing that the person who linked to it had had the sense to note that it was a Buffy crossover. I don't handle crossovers well when I'm not expecting them.

The other... ummm.... o.O I didn't need that mental image, thanks. How about a warning for "I just thought I'd twist a character everyone loves around to the point that she's a parody of herself"? Can we have a warning tag for that, please? Please?

I'm going to bed, now. If I dream about that... someone's going to pay.

Edit: Someone's bound to ask, so here's the link. Don't say I didn't warn you. Also, yes, I'm sure some people will think I'm overreacting. But there are just some things that go beyond my ability to spout the "everybody has their own interpretation" line. And this was one of them. Zoe... no. Just no.

*Brain hurts*

So sorry! Bad fanfic is some of the worst stuff in the world. I have totally been haunted by mental images from some, so I feel your pain. Do you think the author is just very very bad and has a bad beta (or no beta at all)? Or do you think he/she did it on purpose? (I just typed 'purple'. I'm not tired at all right now) Sucks either way. I hope you sleep well and have pleasant dreams of well-written fanfic that's even better than canon...or just dreams about whatever you want instead of that horrible excuse for writing that you read. *hugs*

No, it didn't read like the writer was really a bad writer, it was just one of those moments of "oh dear, I very much disagree with your interpretation of that character."

Thanks for the well-wishes. *Hugs and hopes for better, more canon-like dreams*

O_o

This is like the first time I watched a Jayne/River 'ship music vid and didn't realize just what it was.

I had to stop at;
“Yes, please. Oh, please, Daddy.”

Heh. That's exactly where I had to stop, too. Morbid curiosity carried me that far, but no further. ;)

As for River/Jayne... I feel it can be done well, and there are a few writers I think carry it off brilliantly, but it's definitely a touchy pairing, tricky to get right.

I'm something of a 'newbie' to the realm of "shipping". I'm not really adept/immersed into fanfic either, but I have read some that rings very true and is very well written.

I've seen one or two Jayne/River pieces that captured the characters well and almost had me convinced.

But that first video? I had NO idea there was a Jayne/River following (I should have known!), and had no idea that the video was about them. And then I noticed the cuts of 'meaningful glances' that paired up between River and Jayne and it slowly dawned on me.

It was a very surreal moment. *giggle*

River/Jayne is kind of the... random non-canon pairing that attacked me in a dark alley. I started out twitching and freaking out about it... and then, insidious as it is, it worked its way into my brain and started making sense in a twisted sort of way. It's funny, since the rest of the pairings I'm fond of are the exceedingly canon pairings (Zoe/Wash, Simon/Kaylee, a bit of unrequited Mal/Inara), so River and Jayne came out of nowhere and totally shocked me.

I can imagine that would be surreal! The kinds of things one stumbles on in fandom are always... interesting eye-openers, to say the least. ;)
