One of the lovely ladies over at [livejournal.com profile] academics_anon is writing her dissertation on women's body image and has a quite short survey that she'd love to have filled out by as many women over the age of 18 as possible. She has contact info in case you have questions, everything's anonymous and (I felt, at least) quite unintrusive as surveys go, and at the end you have the opportunity to request a copy of her results when she finishes her work - how much better can it get?

The survey took me about five minutes, and I think it's for a fabulous cause, so please check it out!

Awesome! I just had to pimp it, especially once I'd taken the survey. Research like that is so totally important. :D

It definitely is. And you know I'm always interested in that sort of stuff. *should so be doing something productive*

Yeah, so should I. But instead, I'm browsing for Winamp skins and otherwise puttering around the net... *sighs*

Saa, it sounded interesting I started to fill it out... but it didn't apply to virgins so I really couldn't proceed. >_< Oh well. Yanno, body image has to do with a lot more than just with sex with another person. But a thesis is a thesis...

Yeah... I think she had to limit her research design, because of the restrictions that a survey puts on your ability to ask other questions. It's definitely a pity, though - I kind of regretted the total focus on sexuality, as well, even though I was still able to answer for things.

Fascinating. I requested a copy of her paper when she's done -- I'd really like to see those results.

Also, I wonder how different a survey for men would be. Would it just exchange "fat" for "(lack of) muscles"? Would there be less anxiety, I wonder?

Good question. We aren't trained, in this society, to consider men's body issues... and oftentimes I get the impression that men don't even have them to the extent women do, although that's probably inaccurate of me. Many of my male friends have expressed a worry about getting a gut or something (often to my extreme confusion since they have no fat at all visible!), but then there are the stereotypical overweight half-naked white men during the summer, guts hanging over their stomachs with no shame whatsoever, while even trim women are worried about keeping things covered. It's interesting...
