It's Firefly, no movie spoilers, and it's dark. If you're squeamish, don't read it. But it's so very well-written, so very true to character, and just plain lovely. Based off the possibly-apocryphal Sex Poison Reaver plot thing that some people may remember from a while back, the one that Tim Minear supposedly leaked. Whether or not that was real, I can tell you that this story pulls it off beautifully.
