more dancing, and birthday!

All I have to say is YAY.

Contra dancing went even better last night than the first night, in part since last night was the actual monthly Browncoats meet-up, so I was able to very happily interact with some of 'my kind,' and also in good part because the lovely wanderingbeyond came with me this time! Much fun was had at the dancing, and then much more fun was had at the bar ("Chupacabra," a Mexican-restaurant/bar thing where our organizer, Ethan, was well known by the waitress and which he refers to as "the Alliance-friendly bar" for reasons that I could not quite put together. Ahhhh, geeks - how I love them).

I'm even making progress at picking up the dances faster! Not quite enough that I can manage well when I end up with a partner who hasn't got a clue or when the patterns get really complicated, but hey - I try. I'm still a beginner, and this is totally the most fun I've had in a long time. There will hopefully be pictures sometime (someone else's camera, so I have no idea when they'll be up), which I will re-post here if I don't look too hideous in them. At the very least I'd like to show off my pretty River costume, which is still making progress in the direction of looking as it should. Who wants to wear a sweater to contra dancing, anyway? ;)

Fuzziness happens, tragically. Unfortunately, that was not one of my favorite sets, and it was also after I'd lost the thin red top. Ah well.


As predicted, I look demonic in this picture (pink! why???). It's a cute one of wanderingbeyond, though, so I'll include it. :D

Alliance-friendly bar? That dates back to the pre-Firefly days, when Zoe and Mal were in the war to keep Earth out of the (planetary, I forget the exact term) Alliance.

*Laughs* Whoops, I wasn't clear - I got the Alliance part, I just couldn't figure out why our fearless organizer had dubbed this particular cute little bar with that title. Probably reference to Train Job, but the whole place was remarkably warm and welcoming, to my eyes. ;)

That's it exactly. ;) He's a very fun guy - picture a tall, funny gentleman dressed up in a pretty much spot-on Badger costume, complete with the very fine hat, and you've got him.

Isn't that a fun name? Apparently there's this whole goat theme on Phinney Ridge, 'cause back in the 40's the mountain goats busted out of their cage at the zoo, and that led them straight out into the Phinney Ridge neighborhood... so now they're the neighborhood mascots, I guess. And how better to play off that than a tiny little Mexican joint named after the goat-sucker? ;)

I'd already eaten dinner before I went to the dance, but I picked a bit at the communal nachos, which were very good, and from what the regulars were saying the food is really good there.

It is heaps of fun, and I'm so glad I discovered it. Sooo grateful to all the good people who put up with my attempts to learn, too. Especially when they oh-so-kindly claim that I'm doing very well. ;D

And thanks! That skirt's been kind of a nightmare to find things that match it, but I loooove it. So fluffy and gauzy. It kind of sticks to my legs when I wear nylons, though. :P Figures, since I'm so pasty as to not really be willing to not wear them.
