I was so good last night - I went to bed nice and early, and it made it sooooo much easier to get up this morning. Bad news is, I was slightly dehydrated... must remember to drink more water, especially after Contra on Friday and the party on Saturday. Whoops.

And now I'm being good again and working on my paper. Never mind that it's due Wednesday, I need all the positive reinforcement that I can get. So... good me. o_O

On other projects, I'm caught in icon-making HELL right now, with not one but two images that just plain don't want to work no matter how I screw with them... and it seemed like such a cool idea, too. Must learn to let things like this go. If it won't work, it won't work. *Grits teeth*

On the subject of writing, Snape is being uncooperative (*gasp*), Jayne is... umm.... still drunk, and it is a dangerous world when one's current favorite muse can kill one with her pinkie. Also, the Highlander bunnies seem to be waking up from an extended nap. It's slightly disturbing.

And no, there's no reason for me to use this icon. In fact, it's still just a base, but I love the expression so much I couldn't resist uploading it.

I absolutely *love* that scene, and that look on her face in particular. She's so good at talking shit to Badger without him even noticing.

I know! That was the moment I completely fell in love with River's character, I think - she's so bizarrely cute and awesome. And I have a crazy soft spot for Badger, anyway, so that scene has always been one of my favorites.

I really like Badger too. I was so hoping he'd be in the movie, but we had to put up with Fanty and Mingo instead. They're no Badger, that's for sure.

I really need a Badger icon.

He's just such a different sort of character - funny and sort of compelling in his grubby, quirky way, and yet a sleazy bastard. I really wonder what Joss would've done with him, in the course of a full series.

Mingo and Fanty... eh. They sort of felt like Joss wanted them to be as clever and quirky as Badger, but didn't have the time to make them unique enough. When I think of Badger, the things that really struck me about him were his way of speaking (The accent! The weird little turns of phrase!), and then the details - his hat, the tie over the kind of gross undershirt, the apple-peeler... But, then, I thought the movie was missing a lot of the little details and color that makes Firefly so wonderful. Too much sacrificed for common appeal, maybe.

...Damn it. Now that you've mentioned it, so do I. :P

My favorite Badgerism ever?

"Misapprehending"

Sheer genius on Joss's part.

Dammit, I still didn't make myself a Badger icon yet. And I want to use one so badly. Right now, in fact. I guess I'll have to settle with snarky Jayne. Such is life.

The snarky!Jayne icon is awesome! I love how the text follows the lines of the door, and his expression is just plain priceless.

*Is a dorky English major who loves language* I was curious, so I just checked the Oxford English Dictionary online (off-campus university access rules). You know what's even better than the word itself? The fact that it's a real word. From the 17th/18th centuries, but still in contemporary usage.

1. trans. To apprehend wrongly; to fail to understand correctly; to misinterpret. Also: {dag}to suppose erroneously to be (obs.). XD

I totally need to make some funny Firefly icons. Other than the Wash one, which is way the hell too plain.

That's great! Badger's smarter than I thought he was. I always thought that 'misapprehending' was similar to a Bushism (you know, when George thinks he's saying something intelligent, but uses the word incorrectly and/or makes something up altogether).

Yeah, snarky!Jayne is the first funny Firefly icon I've made, but I dig it, and so I'll probably make more. I did make one with Wash saying "We are so humped", but I'm not sure if that qualifies as funny.

I really have no idea who that person is in the icon or what show/movie/etc it came from. But the expression just screams 'Did you say tiramisu?' to me.

:P

*gasp* It's River Tam from Firefly/Serenity, arguably the best sci-fi show out there.

Sadly, Fox screwed up and showed episodes out of order and put it opposite Friends, meaning that the show never got the ratings it deserved...

ah.
I've seen the show on DVD. In whatever order was on the DVD.

....and aslong as Red Dwarf is around, there's no way any other show can be called "best sci fi." ;)

I haven't seen Red Dwarf, which makes me a bad sci-fi fan :(

And the DVD order is correct! :D

No Red Dwarf??? *Gasp*

You've got to see it, seriously - it's campy British sci-fi at its absolute best.

The expression just screams 'Did you say tiramisu?' to me.

...I would never have thought of that on my own, but now... now that might be the text that I have to put on this icon. I was thinking of just "Ooo," but yours is infinitely more interesting.

If you finish your paper early, I will give you cookies! :D

*hugs Jayne and sings a drunken ballad with him*

(pee ess. I will try and make you an awesome icon if you make me a spiffy River one. Although I don't have textures or brushes that are worth anything.)

I'm really really hoping! I'm such a bad little writer, I almost always finish my papers at the last minute. I never do all-nighters, but still. Bad habits.

That's pretty much exactly what Jayne's up to. Except my Jayne muse seems to have passed out, which makes it hard to finish the fic...

River just makes the best faces, doesn't she? XD What sort of icon did you want? Scene, episode, emotion... some kind of prompt really helps me. *g*

I want one from... argh, I forget the episode name, but it's the one with Jubaal Early. (I have a huge crush on Richard Brooks. His acting skills are awesome. :D)

And... so yeah, anything from that episode would be awesome.

Hmm... I'll see what I can do! It might take me a little to figure out something that I really like (and to find the appropriate screencaps), but it'll be fun. Something happy? Something more serious?

*Points to icon* That's the only one I have from Objects in Space, so far. So yours'll be from a different scene, probably, unless a crazy brainstorm hits me. *g*

What do you think of my new icon? Isn't that the cutest baby you've ever seen? Well yep, it's [livejournal.com profile] rivendellrose when she was 6 months old! Now everybody say Awwwwwwwww!!!!!
Please tell me that it's not the Simon icon you were telling me about the other day that's not going to work out. That would just be too sad! There must be a way!
(BTW, aren't you glad that I got a paid account so I can make icons of all your old pictures??) ;D

Fortunately, you only replied to me, so the likelihood of anyone else seeing this isn't that good. ;)

I'll pay you in icons to take it down (or at least not use it at my journal) before the embarassment goes further!
