Or up, in my case. No, I didn't fall - I'm trapped downstairs by my own desperate efforts to ensure that we don't have a repeat of last summer's flea troubles.

Yesterday was "clear everything off my floor and spray the carpet and my chairs, then give the cat a nice mohawk on the back of his head dose of Advantage and stay upstairs for about 1.5 hours. This afternoon was "lock the cat downstairs, spray the couches and hallway carpet, and then stay downstairs while it dissipates/settles. I even left a note on the door for the housemates. Only problem is, it didn't occur to me to do a few simple things like... get the upstairs phone down here with me. Or get something to drink. *Sighs*

On the upside, one of the resumes I sent out this morning already got a response, and they want me to interview! Yay! I may yet manage to get a job that won't involve flipping burgers post-college!

Ooh, good luck with the job search -- those things always suck big time. I dread the day I have to find another job (hopefully it won't be for years and years).

I hate job searching, but the internet makes it soooo much easier than it otherwise would be. I pretty much just troll Craigslist, a UW recruiting site, and a few other similar sites, and occasionally traipse off to random spots like the FBI webpage or Starbucks' page (I live in Seattle... since I can't really apply to Microsoft I figured it was necessary for me to apply for the other local corporate giant) and toss off my resume in every direction imaginable, then wait to see who/what bites.

...And in the middle of typing this reply I had to go answer a call from someone who wanted me to come in tomorrow to interview for a data entry position starting Monday. I ended up telling her I didn't think this would work for me, but... yeesh. Talk about fast.

Eep -- Monday? That is fast.

What would you like to do for Starbucks? I'm having a hard time tying what I know about you and your degree/interests with something Starbucks would need.

It's interesting you want to work for the FBI -- I had a year or two where I was really, really interested in working for them as well. Now I'm glad I didn't follow through with it, because it might have just been all those X-Files episodes I was watching at the time (my first fandom!)

Oh, Mulder. *sigh*

It's more that I was applying to office jobs pretty much wherever I see them than any serious interest in Starbucks - it was one of those off-chance moments where I saw something, shrugged, and went for it.

The FBI job is a similar situation (I met with a recruiting officer from the local office last spring, when I wasn't looking for a long-term position, and kept the address out of sort of vague interest and amusement. Really, though, it's surprising how much some of their office positions have in common with what I do now (database management, building security, etc), and there's no better job security than working for the government. So it's a mix of silly interest (being able to say, "Oh, I work for the FBI" in a very blase sort of way), and honest rationale.

And yes. I was a huge X-Files fan back in the day, too. I so wanted to be Scully when I grew up. ;)

Yeah, I actually sort of figured that out myself after I posted the comment. :P

David Duchovny / Mulder was the first adult male that I ever found sexually attractive. I used to get all twitterpated when he would wear jeans instead of a suit. XD

Why do I only have one Mulder icon? Must remedy.

Yeeeahhh... I seem to recall something like that, too, despite spending a lot of time later making fun of what a dork he is. He is a dork, but he's a cute one. And oddly similar to Mal in that way. o_O

Why do I only have one Mulder icon? Must remedy.

That's exactly what I was thinking about having no Scully icons...

Please tell me those caps are from the vampire pizza delivery kid episode!

Funniest. Ep. Evar.

I just love it when Mulder wakes up from being drugged and starts in on the whole Shaft bit. I wowed and amazed my high school chemistry teacher by telling him what chloral hydrate was and what it did. He hadn't even heard of it before, but we looked it up, and there it was.

I am such a doofus.

Nice Scully icons, by the way -- looks like you're more motivated than I am, because yes, I still only have one Mulder icon, and no, I did not actually make it myself. XD

They are indeed! That was totally one of my favorite episodes. I love the goofy ones. The Shaft theme, the sunflower seeds, the constant sniping between Mulder and Scully about which version of their story was more accurate... ♥

I was feeling kind of "bleh" last night, so making icons was pretty much all I did until my roommates dragged me up to have a glass of wine and relax. So icons happened. But no school-work. Which I will pay for over the rest of this weekend...

Don't forget Luke Wilson as the doofy sheriff! That was the first thing I ever saw him in, and he's great. "Kinda like Rain Man." LOL.

I haven't seen it in YEARS ... I should download it. I'll have to make my husband watch it -- he doesn't understand the not-so-current X-Files obsession. I was just starting to get over it when we met -- crappy lame seasons with new people that aren't Mulder. *grumbles* I just can't watch that guy that replaced him in anything -- I will always and forever think of him as the scary cop from Terminator.

:snort: Oh, you poor thing, stuck downstairs. Also, the mental image of the cat with the mohawk? I think I just died a little laughing.

Awesome, go resumes! Speaking of which, what's the template for a resume? I need to write one soon. *__*

It really does sort of look like a little mohawk back there, especially the first few hours after you put the stuff on. It goes on the back of their head so they can't lick it... Very silly.

At least I thought to bring food when I came down... I'm always so hungry when I get back from class.

There's a bunch of styles you can follow... Try looking through this (http://depts.washington.edu/careers/pdf/cgpages/cgp15-22.pdf). It doesn't seem to be UW-restricted, but if it is just let me know and I can download and email the pertinent bits to you. Very useful pamphlet our career center put together.

Lots of office assistant and receptionist type stuff, at the moment, with a bit of data entry and the like thrown in for "fun." We'll see - I enjoy office work, so it shouldn't be bad.

Yay!!!! you already got a response!! Good luck!
Wow, locking myself downstairs without thinking ahead
to get the phone or drink is so something I would do.
How long do you have to stay down, 1.5 hours? That's not too bad at least. What will the roomies do if they come home in the meantime?

Two responses, in fact. The second woman wanted me to start on Monday, though, and it was sounding like they wanted someone with more experience than I had (and wanted me to interview tomorrow, eep, very tricky since I have class til 3:20 and the office is in Bellevue...) so we eventually agreed it might not be the best situation for either of us at the time. I kind of regret it, but it was a decision made in a kind of shock. o_O She said she'd keep me on file for later positions, though.

Well, the hour is up now, plus 15 minutes, so it's not too bad anymore. Theo and I are staying down here a while longer mostly 'cause he's close to the ground and I don't want him inhaling more of this stuff than he has to. Plus, I don't want to be up there just yet, either. Smells bad, despite keeping one of the screened windows open. The official period is over, though, so it'll be okay if somebody comes home. I did it right when I got home specifically because I'm almost always the first one in the door, and alone for a few hours on Tuesdays before other people show up.

See my icon? His name is Rico. I think I told you a while back that Barb's cat Jada had kittens (I know, I know, I keep telling her)
Anyway, this is one of the kittens that she gave to a freind of
ours Paula. She sent me this picture of him. He's so cute isn't he? He's white, but the tips of his ears, his tail, his back feet, and his naose are orange.
I love him!

Master of Library Science. I think I could do the job with an Associates, but I want the Masters.

They're pretty bad, but it's what I've got to deal with. *shrugs* Cross to bear, so to speak.
