okay... now I can't get down
May. 10th, 2006 03:39 pmOr up, in my case. No, I didn't fall - I'm trapped downstairs by my own desperate efforts to ensure that we don't have a repeat of last summer's flea troubles.
Yesterday was "clear everything off my floor and spray the carpet and my chairs, then give the cat a nicemohawk on the back of his head dose of Advantage and stay upstairs for about 1.5 hours. This afternoon was "lock the cat downstairs, spray the couches and hallway carpet, and then stay downstairs while it dissipates/settles. I even left a note on the door for the housemates. Only problem is, it didn't occur to me to do a few simple things like... get the upstairs phone down here with me. Or get something to drink. *Sighs*
On the upside, one of the resumes I sent out this morning already got a response, and they want me to interview! Yay! I may yet manage to get a job that won't involve flipping burgers post-college!

Date: 2006-05-10 11:25 pm (UTC)...And in the middle of typing this reply I had to go answer a call from someone who wanted me to come in tomorrow to interview for a data entry position starting Monday. I ended up telling her I didn't think this would work for me, but... yeesh. Talk about fast.

It's interesting you want to work for the FBI -- I had a year or two where I was really, really interested in working for them as well. Now I'm glad I didn't follow through with it, because it might have just been all those X-Files episodes I was watching at the time (my first fandom!)
Oh, Mulder. *sigh*

Date: 2006-05-11 12:31 am (UTC)The FBI job is a similar situation (I met with a recruiting officer from the local office last spring, when I wasn't looking for a long-term position, and kept the address out of sort of vague interest and amusement. Really, though, it's surprising how much some of their office positions have in common with what I do now (database management, building security, etc), and there's no better job security than working for the government. So it's a mix of silly interest (being able to say, "Oh, I work for the FBI" in a very blase sort of way), and honest rationale.
And yes. I was a huge X-Files fan back in the day, too. I so wanted to be Scully when I grew up. ;)

Date: 2006-05-11 12:33 am (UTC)David Duchovny / Mulder was the first adult male that I ever found sexually attractive. I used to get all twitterpated when he would wear jeans instead of a suit. XD
Why do I only have one Mulder icon? Must remedy.

That's exactly what I was thinking about having no Scully icons...

Date: 2006-05-11 08:10 pm (UTC)Funniest. Ep. Evar.
I just love it when Mulder wakes up from being drugged and starts in on the whole Shaft bit. I wowed and amazed my high school chemistry teacher by telling him what chloral hydrate was and what it did. He hadn't even heard of it before, but we looked it up, and there it was.
I am such a doofus.
Nice Scully icons, by the way -- looks like you're more motivated than I am, because yes, I still only have one Mulder icon, and no, I did not actually make it myself. XD

Date: 2006-05-11 11:09 pm (UTC)I was feeling kind of "bleh" last night, so making icons was pretty much all I did until my roommates dragged me up to have a glass of wine and relax. So icons happened. But no school-work. Which I will pay for over the rest of this weekend...

Date: 2006-05-11 11:44 pm (UTC)I haven't seen it in YEARS ... I should download it. I'll have to make my husband watch it -- he doesn't understand the not-so-current X-Files obsession. I was just starting to get over it when we met -- crappy lame seasons with new people that aren't Mulder. *grumbles* I just can't watch that guy that replaced him in anything -- I will always and forever think of him as the scary cop from Terminator.

Date: 2006-05-10 11:34 pm (UTC)At least I thought to bring food when I came down... I'm always so hungry when I get back from class.
There's a bunch of styles you can follow... Try looking through this (http://depts.washington.edu/careers/pdf/cgpages/cgp15-22.pdf). It doesn't seem to be UW-restricted, but if it is just let me know and I can download and email the pertinent bits to you. Very useful pamphlet our career center put together.

to get the phone or drink is so something I would do.
How long do you have to stay down, 1.5 hours? That's not too bad at least. What will the roomies do if they come home in the meantime?

Date: 2006-05-10 11:38 pm (UTC)Well, the hour is up now, plus 15 minutes, so it's not too bad anymore. Theo and I are staying down here a while longer mostly 'cause he's close to the ground and I don't want him inhaling more of this stuff than he has to. Plus, I don't want to be up there just yet, either. Smells bad, despite keeping one of the screened windows open. The official period is over, though, so it'll be okay if somebody comes home. I did it right when I got home specifically because I'm almost always the first one in the door, and alone for a few hours on Tuesdays before other people show up.

I love him!
