There is nothing in this world quite like trying to go back and fix the timeline of an ongoing fic written more than a year ago.

I don't know what was going on in my head when I was writing the "Interference" series, but I keep running into issues. For one thing, I sure as hell could've paid a bit more attention to the mechanics of the writing... but more than that, I never worked out a proper timeline, and that's causing me all kinds of headaches. I love this damned series, much as it's just me being self-indulgent, and I want to make it work.

I have probably about half of Chapter 5, a complete Father's day piece which I guess I'll post for the holiday this year, and a little crossover and slightly-AU afterword that I've been working on for more than a year now, on and off. Long story short, I want this thing finished. So I'm trying to piece together what it is exactly that I was trying to accomplish with the series and finish it off.

I've also got a multi-chapter Firefly fic in the works, the first chapter of which I'm aaaalmost finished with. Much accomplishment. XD

I have at least three different references to Joe's daughter's age, and at least two to the amount of time that's passed since the series. And of course they don't match up. I have a feeling I'll be posting "the complete, edited 'Interference'" by the time this whole thing is finished. XP

I had to go back and fix stories I wrote in my series, some nearly ten years ago. Argh! and there's still several that need tweaking -- I've just been too lazy. Last year, I created an Excel spreadsheet to keep track of major events/dates and try and keep it updated. What a mess [sigh]

Thank heavens, "Interference" isn't that long, or nearly that complicated. It's just a matter of me writing over the course of months, with all kinds of distractions, and then coming back to it after a year-long hiatus. And wondering what the hell I was on when I wrote parts of it. :P

And that right there is why I stick to vague stories that could have taken place at any time. ^_^ Good luck with it, though -- I've often found that leaving things be for a while can give you a more objective point of view.

Also, I finally got my most recent fic back from my beta, and I'll probably be posting it today. I'd really like to get your opinion on it, if you don't mind, as it is VERY DIFFERENT from anything I've written before (present tense! eep!). After all, you ARE one of the Firefly writers I admire most. <3

More objective, definitely, and I've also learned a lot about writing since I worked on these fics. I got so annoyed with myself, rereading them - there were so many times when I just hadn't worded things as well as I should have. Ah well - good to know I've been making progress, I guess...

(Speaking of which, wow, that icon is gorgeous! When I saw the tilted-text brushes, I really didn't think much of the idea, but seeing it on a good icon, the effect is really nice! I love how the texture you used fades into Simon's shirt, too.)

Awesome, I can't wait to read it! Present tense is scary, but once you get used to it... I don't know, I found it kind of addictive. Now it's hard for me to get out of it sometimes. :P And thank you so much!!! That's so unbelievably kind of you!

Yeah, there's something to be said about reading old things and being thankful that you've come such a long way, rather than being frustrated because you still can't figure out how to get it quite right. :p

Thank you -- I quite surprised myself when the Simon icon popped out. I kinda like it. ^_^ And I really like those tilted tiny text (say that three times fast!) brushes; they make icon-making awfully easy.

Yeah, this fic just sort of fell out in the present tense, without any planning or forethought on my part, so I guess it just wanted to be written this way. It also wanted to be written from River's POV (which I've never attempted before), although I was shooting for Zoe-POV before I actually started writing. It's amazing how sometimes the stories just tell themselves, isn't it? Too bad that's not always the case.

Oh, and I really mean that -- I'm not just trying to kiss your ass so you'll say nice things about my fic. :P
