Aaaand, I'm officially nervous about my first day tomorrow. Yikes. But it'll be okay... it has to be. :P

Spent most of the day making the above icon (can you tell I'm really struggling for a way to make this picture work as the kind of icon I want?), and then writing. Like songs, I have learned that poems can attach themselves to given characters/pairings with the tenacity of a barnacle. I am certain that T.S. Eliot would be appalled with what I'm doing with his work. Hell, as an English major, I'm kind of appalled. But... but... it fits so well!

Also went out to the Polynesian restaurant with [livejournal.com profile] miss_arel, Amy, [livejournal.com profile] wanderingbeyond, and her friend Jessica. Much fun was had by all, as well as fruity tropical drinks. I'm still wearing the pink paper umbrella from my virgin pina colada in my hair. XD

Anyway. Going to go make up a SASE for my English prof so I can get my paper back, and put together lunch/snacks for tomorrow. And then go to bed, darn it. Because I need to get up early tomorrow so I can be on time!

Edit: The icon is illegible, isn't it? I could've sworn I could read it earlier... maybe it's my contacts being tired. Argh. I wanted it juuust on the edge of legible, while still being that jammed-up artsy sort of look.

Oh, you'll do fine and you know it. Good luck!!

Also, TS Eliot = my favorite poet EVER. Ever, ever, ever, ever, and then some. XD

I know, it's just first day stress. *Hugs* Thank you!

He's pretty much my favorite, too, with possible exception of Shakespeare (because, honestly - Shakespeare! I looooove him so very much. "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock," and "Portrait of a Lady" are the ones I always think of the most, but I've been going through my poetry book, and "Whispers of Immortality," and "The Hollow Men" are also so so so so so good. I like "The Waste Land," too, but it's so frenetic and all over the place in terms of quotations and references and changes in movement that I have a hard time following and paying attention to it unless I actually read it out loud.

I wrote a fabulous paper on The Waste Land in one of my junior college classes, but I haven't read it in years. I love Prufrock and The Hollow Men and far too many others.

I mem'd this a long time ago, but haven't snagged any yet. They are gorgeous.

*Laughs* I wrote a... well, mediocre, as I remember it, paper on "Sweeney Erect," last year. It was pretty fun, but I was pissed that since we'd spent time on it in class I wasn't allowed to write on "Portrait" or "Prufrock." :P

Ahhhh, yes. [livejournal.com profile] noldo_icons does such amazing work... In fact, I had originally hoped to use the "eyes I dare not meet in dreams" quote from "The Hollow Men," as in this post (http://community.livejournal.com/noldo_icons/17237.html#cutid1) for the icon, but couldn't make it fit quite like I wanted. Maybe I'll go back and try again, once I've given the process some space. No matter what I do, I can't seem to get this icon to go quite like I want it to.

I actually never got into writing my own poetry, because any time I tried, it was always so awful compared to Eliot's poems, which I was reading like crazy at the time, and I was frustrated that I couldn't write something as perfect as a TS Eliot poem.

The worst part is knowing that he wrote "Prufrock" at our age. 22 or 23! Unbelievable. *Shakes head* Damn talented people, making the rest of us look bad.

(And be glad you never wrote poetry - at least that means there isn't written evidence of how horribly sophomoric and melodramatic you might have been as a teenager... Geagh. Old notebooks are to be avoided.)

From: [identity profile] reve-lucide.livejournal.com
Wow. I most definitely did not know that. Ugh. That makes me even more glad that I realized my lack of talent at an early age, and stopped trying. XD

Oh, and I've got plenty of evidence of my teenage melodrama -- I am embarrassed to say I've got quite a few completely-void-of-plot Mulder!angst stories that were written when I was fourteen or so. *facepalm*

And when I say junior college class, I meant junior YEAR college class. I am so very bad at saying what I mean to say sometimes. XD

I figured. *Pats* It's gotta be late where you are, since it's getting fairly late even here on the coast, and typing... doesn't always cooperate. ;)

We're only an hour ahead of you, so it's not too late, but as you may well know, I haven't had the best day ever, so that's what I'm gonna blame it on. ^_^

Hee ... well, it should be, since I most definitely will not have a hangover tomorrow morning, thank god.

Love the icon, btw.

Thank goodness for that!

Thanks! Not one of mine, sadly - it was made by... [livejournal.com profile] proverb? I'm not sure if that's going to be an LJ user or not. If not, it's Proverb. I've been working on a few LotR icons, but none of the caps I have are very good. Must get more. XD

OOuu, fruity drinks, fun! :D

..sadly, I cannot read the icon :\ the only part that is really legible to me is the "you?" bit at the end of the third line.
The swirly fonts are so pretty, but never seem to work in a practical sense >-> poo

Yes!

I figured. :P I was torn, when I was making it, between making it legible and making it just look good. And I thought I'd found a happy medium because of course after staring at the damned text for freaking ever, naturally I could read it. But now, not so much. *Headdesk* Back to the drawing board with it, apparently.

I read: "my friend"..."you"...and I think "having left unsaid"
So what does it actually say?

They are having you start so quickly? Cool!

I know you're nervous and that is only natural to feel that way. With a little while under your belt, you'll feel better in no time. Just be patient with yourself. It took me a couple weeks to get over the first-job jitters. Are there any ways you can pamper yourself during this time? (Baths, long walks, meditation - whatever you like to do to unwind).

Yup! Kinda freaky, since I have to leave work early later this week for my last final, and again for my graduation, but hey - I'm all for starting early. *g*

It's just this first week or two that's going to be hard, while I get used to the system and the office and everything. I'm waiting on eggshells to see what my First Mistake will be, because of course everyone has to make at least one mistake at a new job. :P

And yes - my mom brought me a bottle of wine to open when I get home, and I have a feeling there will be a lot of music, yoga, walking, and fic-writing when I get home for the next few weeks. Good stuff.

Thanks so much for your support!!!

Yep, everyone makes mistakes on the job. It happens. I've been in the same department for 10 years and still make mistakes. Your best bets are to be as careful and detailed as you can, and also hope you have a good boss. If he/she sees all your good qualities then they should be able to overlook a mistake or two.

Congrats again! I am glad your mom got you some wine. Cool. :)

Yeah, I was pretty pleased when my first mistake got a "oh, I did that all the time" from my predecessor, and the second one just perplexed everyone in the office as to how the hell it'd happened, through no fault of mine thank goodness.

Thanks! Me too. I'm restricting myself from it til I've actually had some food, but after that you can bet the bottle will be opened. :D
