rivendellrose: (delenn and sheridan)
[personal profile] rivendellrose
Never in all my life would it have occurred to me to pair happy, uplifting (though, to my heathen mind, rather morbid) gospel music with a big nasty scene of Very Unpleasant Man being beaten to death by a ton of very angry people whose genocide he'd been instrumental in organizing. Should I ever hear the song "No Place to Hide" again, you'll know it. Because I'll probably go a bit white, then red, then excuse myself quickly. It's already an eery-ass song if you really pay attention, and everyone being so damned happy singing it was kind of freaking me out, but the contrast... umm... yeah. Kudos to JMS. That was creepy as all hell.

I missed a lot of brain-breakage by growing up on Star Trek instead of this. Just think - if I'm this jaded having grown up on happy perfect-world sci-fi, just imagine how I might have come out otherwise...

(Incidentally, I find it unendingly amusing that Delenn's issues with human slang always seem to come back to body parts. Butt, crotchety ("This cannot be a real word, I told myself")... do you suppose she's trying to tell Sheridan something? ;) And what the hell dictionary was she using, anyway? Whatever happened to "ill-tempered?" as a definition for "cranky?")

Two episodes left in this season! ...And four is on its way!

Exactly.

Gah. Through the whole third season now. And for crying out loud, when Sheridan comes back I sure as hell hope somebody rings his neck for me. That idiot!

But... the vision of the future. He was there, and Delenn said they had a son. She begged him not to go to Z'ha'dum (wow, I almost wrote Khazad-dum, which would have been hilarious, but totally different...), so that must've happened in her timeline. She said it was never the same after. So he has to come back.

...Although probably not until season five or something crazy like that. Apparently we get a new captain every few seasons around here, or something. :P

Or I could be totally screwing with you and Sheridan's half-Vorlon nature will allow him to grow wings and he won't plunge into the rocky nasty nukey death below.

Or not.

Clearly. See, Kosh really was John's father (or maybe his mother... we never did actually see her...), and all this time he was trying to protect Sheridan because of that relationship. The whole thing with Sebastian was actually because he wanted to see if Delenn was worthy of dating his son. *Nods*

The sad thing is that with any other series, that would be a lot less plausible than it is for this one.

I usually subscribe to the "characters who fall/jump off cliffs are clearly going to come back" theory, but I don't have a precedent on characters jump off a cliff into an endless chasm and then are crushed by their own thermo-nuclear-warhead-bearing spaceship. I just don't have a frame of reference for that one.

That, by the way, made me laugh out loud.

Ah, the magic of Babylon 5. For the record, you WILL sob like a baby when the Series is over because everyone does.

I'm glad. ♥ I was so mad at him for crashing the White Star, damn it! I loved that ship. And Delenn had it made especially for him! *Grumbles about Sheridan not being grateful*

I'm sure I will. I'm terrified to even think about it, for fear of what will come, but I'm sure I will.

Ah, but don't you remember what the Centauri prophet said about visions of the future? They're what might be. There are places in life to change the course of events, and only very certain events are set in stone.

And yes, Babylon 5 does kind of go through captains like candy.

Well, yeah, but... damn it. Lwaxana Lady Morella did say that, didn't she? But Delenn said he couldn't change what had happened in that future. Or did she mean that he couldn't change it because anything he changed wouldn't be her timeline anyway.... damn.

It does! Holy crap, people, they're not supposed to be expendable! It's like SeaQuest and the damned new ship every damned new season!

Yes, and now I've just seen 'Z'ha'dum.' That pig-headed, self-sacrificing son of a bitch who calls himself Sheridan. I want him to come back from the dead right this instant so that I can slap him, ring his fucking neck, and then give him a long, stern lecture about how not to disobey things that people who care about him beg him about.

God damn that bastard. o_O

He can't be a proper martyr to his cause unless he dies. Ah, Babylon 5. They do enjoy killing off characters, sadly. There were some deaths in that show that made me gnash my teeth and wail. :/

And that's the other half of why I've been hiding from B5 fic. The more salient reason is that I don't want to be spoiled. But I have to admit that the desire not to watch the rest of the series with... New!Kosh/Lennier and Delenn/Pak'Mara-ambassador stuck in my head, is a pretty good reason not to even look. ;)

Waugh. I'm not ready for the dying to start! I'm not prepared! Kosh traumatized me enough, and that was more because it was fucking scary than because I liked him.

Vorlon porn. Now... that's a mental image. o_O At this point, though, I'd pretty much kill for any decently-written B5 fic. I can't go looking for any because of spoilers! And I'm having a hard time coming up with stuff on my own because my brain just can't seem to get a handle on any actual bunnies.

Did you know she was originally supposed to be male? This is why she looks so androgynous in the pilot. JMS really loved the idea of a character who changed gender, but eventually dropped it, hence her more obviously feminine appearance in the series proper.

There's a famous (or infamous) practical joke JMS pulled on Peter Jurasik and Andreas Katsulas using that concept. I can't remember why he did it now, but at one point he wrote a script in which G'kar changes gender from male to female and winds up in bed with Londo. JMS had the whole cast believing this was the actual shooting script for a while before saying "Gotcha!" After, Peter and Andreas would perform select scenes from the fake script at cons. I never did get to see them do this, but I hear it was screamingly funny from friends who were so blessed.

(Why, yes, I am a B5 junkie, why do you ask?)

I saw that in one of the wikis, yes! (I was researching...) I found it especially amusing that the reason he didn't stick with it was "oh... the effect to make her voice sound more masculine kind of sucks." And I can well imagine it did, especially compared to Mira's very pretty natural voice.

As [livejournal.com profile] theladyfeylene told it to me, it was part of an escalating prank war between JMS and Andreas. Supposedly, it went so far that he had the makeup and costuming people working away on it, and poor Mira came to him crying and angry because of how out of nowhere (and out of character) it seemed to her. By the time he admitted it was a joke, Andreas had to surrender the whole prank war on the basis that he just couldn't top that.

At least, as I said, that's the story as I heard it. I love how stories like this get passed around. It makes me sorry I missed out on the whole first-run, the exciting times.

Well, 5th season kind of blows, so fair warning. There are moments, mind you, but it's not as good as the rest.

Damn. Now I'm thinking I need to buy the DVD sets and watch the whole series again. And I need a B5 icon or three, especially one of G'kar to remember Andreas by.

I was starting to get that impression, from checking Amazon.com prices last night. *Sighs* 3rd is one of the most expensive, of course, because it's the one I'm most determined to own.

That's kind of what I'm thinking - by the time this is over, I suspect I'll really want the dumb fluffy stuff from the beginning, again. And please, if in your icon searches you happen to find good screencaps, will you share them? I've been searching all over the place, with next to no luck.
