melange a randomness
Aug. 2nd, 2006 11:35 pmCorollary to last night's happy fic-induced post:
I will not spoil myself after all this hard work just because I found a fic writer whose work I enjoy. I will not read fic that is set in season 5,even if particularly not if it has to do with the character about who I am getting awful wibbly feelings that predict Immense Suffering before the end of the series. Poor woobie. I love that there are all these awful things that I know are coming for major characters, but I'm completely distracted by this twist-in-the-belly bad feeling about a relatively minor one.
Thou shalt not hurt the small, innocent, cute things, damn it. Isn't that a rule somewhere?
Oh, wait. I remember now - when you're a writer, the rule goes something more on the order of "thou shalt hurt the most absolutely unexpected, cute, and innocent characters, because it's a better knife in the gut of your audience that way." The small-innocent-cute rule only applies to puppies and kittens. And even then only on TV and movies, and with kindly writers as opposed to the really mean ones. We're talking about one of the few sci-fi TV shows that has ever made me go "whoa... you're really not pulling punches, here, are you?" Small cute things should fear this man muchly. And so should I. Woe.
Speaking of writerliness, I finished Night Watch tonight. Oh, Vimes. ♥ And I'm still poking my way through Pledged, which continues to make me more and more appalled with the fact that my dad ever even so much as suggested my thinking about joining a sorority. His school didn't have them, I know, but... scaaaary not-me kind of thing. Wow.
There was something else I was going to say, but now I don't remember it. We cleaned out the freezer this evening. That was interesting. If... slightly disturbing. Oh, and I really am working on editing that damned fic I posted the other day. Many thanks to everyone who commented and kicked my butt into the certainty that yeah, that thing had Serious Issues there at the end. It's getting better. Just... slowly.
Aaaaand I should be in bed.
