lazy sunday...
Oct. 1st, 2006 10:06 amNeighbors have decided today would be a good day to do construction of some kind in the area between our houses. This means I've got "thump... thump.... thump-thump..." going on against the wall that adjoins my desk. Wonder if I'll get any writing done this morning?
Very busy day yesterday, hanging out with
tonsai for the first time in almost a year (yay for catching up with old friends!!!), then an early dinner with
pauldf at the Irish Emigrant (damn their beef stew is good), followed by watching The Fellowship of the Ring, which I haven't seen in way too long, and general hanging-out and having fun. When I got home,
maymargaret and
miss_arel were deep in a game of Trivial Pursuit, so of course I had to join in and 'help.' Which seemed to mostly consist of me proving that my US geography completely sucks ass (FYI, the Carolinas are the southern-ish states, not the Dakotas...), and learning that
nekokoban can do a fairly impressive impression of Kermit the Frog. Which, when she's saying "Kermit the frog here, reporting from the Battle of Pelennor Fields..." is insanely hilarious and disturbing. (We use cards from Lord of the Rings Trivial Pursuit to replace the sports cards. None of us know a thing about sports. XD)
Not a heck of a lot else to say. Still trying to figure my way through a bunch of story ideas that consist of "boy, it'd be fun to write about ___. Now, how the hell can I find something like that that'll work and hasn't been done to death?" On the note of writing,
oszras, I have an admission to make. I'm still trying to write Dukhat and Delenn on the Day of the Dead, but I'm having some... problems. Let me illustrate:
Dukhat: *Recoils at the sight of his poor aide covered in... what is that stuff anyway?* Dear god, woman - what have you done to yourself?
Delenn: *Shrugs* I’m half human. They are the other half of our soul, and we had to be united with them to fulfill our destinies. I’m the bridge between our people. I even married one.
Dukhat: *A bit put off* Somehow, I guess I figured them killing me would bother you.
Delenn: Well... I ordered the whole species destroyed, actually. But then we tortured one and realized he was Valen.
Dukhat: Valen.
Delenn: *Nods*
Dukhat: ...So nothing interesting has happened in the last few years, huh?
Delenn: *Gives a 'what do you do?' kind of face*
Dukhat: Do you at least have a student?
Delenn: I did, but he left to become a ranger because he’s in love with me.
Dukhat: When I taught you never to do things by halves, maybe I should’ve been a bit more careful.
So I'm not sure if the fic will actually happen, because everything I do has a hard time getting past exposition and poor Dukhat just being boggled by the whole thing. Poor squishy.
...Go figure. Apparently writing all of that out really helped to clear my brain and make it possible for me to really write the damned thing. I guess that'll be my solution, now, every time I get stymied by something. o_O
Update: Shit. I knew I should've gone back and rewatched (and taken notes on) the better episodes of S5 before I returned it. The quotes page is only helpful for a small number of things, and I'd really love to do some quick checking on stuff for this fic. Argh.
