Still behind, thanks to spending most of the day doing Other Things, but have discovered that first person is much more fun to write, have met Main Character's best friend, who is something of a twit but entirely amusing, and have met not one, not two but three potential romantic interests. Unfortunately for Main Character, she met one two of them when she was twelve. I knew about one of them in advance (actually, I knew about him before I knew about the main character...), but the other was a complete surprise to me... and I'm somewhat blaming her on the fact that I was listening to the Firefly soundtrack while writing. As this character is the sort to make a good attempt at taking over the story, however, and as she is also the sort who makes me want to roll over and show my soft white under-belly, we may very well yet see more of her.

I have no idea what the hell I'm writing anymore, really. But I'm having fun with it? That's a good thing, right? Right...

That is a very good thing. Just run with it, and let the characters tell you what they want. You'll be surprised at the things they come up with. 8)

Exactly! I've gotten really comfortable doing that with fic, over the last few years, but it's scarier letting that be my guide on a novel. I have to fight the idea that novels should be planned, that I'm not going to be able to support a whole narrative on just following my instincts, etc. I'm hanging on, though! XD
