Paraphrased from Kendra and I hanging around the dinner table with hot cinnamon cocoa spiked with cheap almond-flavored liquor, discussing the boringness of the sex scene I had just read aloud (from Crummy Romance Novel Left in the Wall by a Prior Occupant) as impromptu dinner theater for the housemates.

Kendra: Maybe I'm just jaded after all the fic. Especially starting out in Buffy fandom. The biting always makes things more interesting. And people are always getting tied up...
Me: Clearly, this is why I like Joss - he shares my kinks. Biting and bondage? Throw in a library table and I'm done! Can there be bookshelves? Because I'm totally into that...
Kendra: I need to make you a t-shirt that says "Tie me up in tweed."

Gods help me I've been single too long. No, seriously. ^#@&%$@&*$!

Am going to bed now. Really.

If I manage one for myself, I will definitely look into one for you! :D

Nonsense. I've been single two months (I think) and that sounds perfectly lovely.

To be fair, I always think that kind of thing sounds lovely. I just chart the "how am I feeling about singleness?" thing by how focused my brain gets on these ideas. ;)

Oh ah! Well, yes, my brain is frequently focused on these ideas, but I am a boymonster so I'm allowed. (:

I tend to be a bit more focused than most girls (or than most girls admit to being?), but in practice I'm as neurotic as any girl. Lots of mental action, very little physical. I had an ongoing argument with an old (male) friend of mine who would listen to me bitch about wanting a guy, then scoff that I could get one any time I wanted if I just went out. He didn't quite get the whole "not just any drunken frat boy, you twit" part of the equation. ;)

*Snickers* Really, I'm fairly vanilla about all of this, but I do have my quirks. Bland ones, but quirks nonetheless.

I think the term "vanilla" has gotten distorted. While "vanilla" in these cases generally means "boring" or "not hot", people seem to figure anything that doesn't seem "edgy" or "extreme" is vanilla. Me, I say something falls under the aegis of vanilla if it bores you. As long as one finds something to be hotter than Georgia asphalt in July, it ain't vanilla.

And ain't nothin' bland about rough bondage in a library. =D

Good point. I usually mean it to say that, for the geek culture, I'm fairly mild in my kinks. Light bondage, etc.

...And this is the point where I remember that my grandparents occasionally read this thing, and curl up in a corner to hide and pray that they aren't paying attention today. o_O

Normally, I'd say you could get lucky and they'll be cheerfully oblivious to anything like that, but if they're savvy enough to use the net (unlike my grandparents), they likely comprehend what we're talking about. Oh well.

Only slightly tangentially, last night my D&D group was discussing lewd fic fandom, and Justin (You remember Justin Graham from CSS, right?) innocently asked at one point, "What does 'non-con' mean?" When we finished laughing, the general answer was, "we'll tell you when you're older..."

*Crosses fingers* They don't read my journal terribly regularly? And... I haven't bothered to create filters for my fic, so I guess whatever happens just... happens.

I'm trying really hard to remember which one is Justin. I know I knew him, but I can't bring an image to mind. Anyhow... wow. I always kind of figured non-con for one of those really easy fandom terms. Definitely easier than... "tl;dr" or something. That one stopped me up for weeks before I asked a housemate.

...okay, this is how I know I've had too much coffee (which is to say, any at all...-_-)

I immediately thought, "if library/academia rough sex = hot, would getting paddled with a thesaurus be the hottest thing evar? Like, while shouting out synonyms for spanking?"

Why am I such a dork? -_-;

Lol. Me, personally, I don't get off on the paddling thing. But that is one hell of a mental image.

I'm sayin'! Man...now I'm gonna be distracted for the rest of the work day. -_- I need to start writing fan smut again. It's been too long.

We will all be lucky if this conversation doesn't end up creeping its way into the BtVS fic I've been working on... or maybe I'll be lucky if it does. ;) It takes a lot to get me to write smut, but I was very proud of the last one I managed...

Dude, I had no idea you ever had written it. So it really must've been a while.

Well, largely because I stopped watching television early in high school, I rapidly fell behind in the fandom world. I still have my own ancient fandoms I'm a bit twee over, and I very infrequently blow the dust off them in the name of nostalgia, but by and large my days of writing smut with other peoples' characters are behind me. At this point, it would be more an excercise in recreating my repressed youth than actually trying to write something I felt needed writing. Now, when I want to write smut I just write smut.

Actually, it could be good warm-up for Christmas. For the two female players in my (now 2-years old and running) D&D game, I offered them each the chance to pick any two characters, NPCs or (their) PCs, and I would write them a short story about those two characters, with whatever I write becoming game world canon. As good little fandom writers, they immediately saw how awesome (and dangerous) an idea that is. I gave them the chance to request smut, so I have a sneaking suspicion that I will be writing gay bondage porn for christmas. *le sigh*

And if the thesaurus thing sneaks into your story, you totally need to let me read it! XD

I did the same, but now I'm making it all up by watching stuff on DVD. Which is... awkward, since everything I'm watching now is uber-nostalgia to most of my friends. Leads to interesting conversations... and a lot of spoilers. Alas.

Awwww, you're a good GM for doing that! Alas, I always end up writing my characters' backstories for myself, because if I'm actually playing a character consistently they tend to settle down in a corner of my brain and start redecorating to suit their whims. Come to think of it, it's the same with the characters I write fanfiction for... What's that saying about writers and actors both being Multiple Personality Disordered, but just better at hiding it? :P

I'm sure it will. If only as a quip of some kind...
