Repeat after me: Jen does not need a new fandom. Jen does not need a new fandom. Jen... has an unbearably soft spot for adorably dorky men with slightly big noses and a predilection for getting into far too much trouble. Especially if they come packaged in delightfully cheesy sci-fi shows complete with heroines who actually manage to handle themselves well in a crisis and be completely practical as well as fun.

...By which I mean that Kendra finally got hold of the new Doctor Who from the library, and we're zipping through it at record pace. 5 episodes in, now. By two minutes into the first I was already adoring the Doctor, and that feeling's only gotten worse since. ♥

No spoilers, please! It'll probably be a long while before I get to see S2, even if one of us does succumb to the urge to buy the whole damned thing online. ;)

This did not, in fact, preclude me from also loving Tennet. He had big shoes to fill, and I admire the size of his feet. (Admittedly, his nose is not as big.)

Alas, I don't think it did Colin Baker much good. (I *think* he was one of the people who had grown up a big fan. Regardless, I didn't care much for him.)

Also Season 1 is much better IMO, but that's probably just becaue David Tennant annoys me slightly, Billie Pipper + David Tennant annoys me alot.

I love S1 so far... no prior experience of David Tennant, but I adore the 9th Doctor (whose name is somewhat complicated and which I can never remember...), so I have a feeling there will be sulking involved in the changeover. :P

Yeah I think I never really got over the sulk phase at the loss of Christopher Eccleston (I think that's how it's spelt). Because I really don't mind DT in other things. I think I just get the impression he is copying manerisms of previous Doctors rather than creating his own persona.

Ha yeah the 4th episode was a tad weird and not that great, but it gets better! I thought the season finalle was quite good, though there was some cliché-ness.

There are some off episodes but I really think you should give it annother try if only to bitch about the characters *coughgweni'mlookingatyoucough*. Plus Captain Jack!

I LOVE Doctor Who! I'm a fairly recent convert myself. I always thought Tom Baker was cool, but hadn't seen that much of him. I started with Eccleston and just fell in love with the entire concept. I'm now enjoying a lot of the Baker years and am looking forward to seeing everything I can get my hands on. It's going to be a long time...somehow it's very reassuring to know that there is so much Doctor Who out there! (Even as I mourn all those lost episodes that the BBC was too shortsighted to keep.)

I love the idea of a show that's been going as long as this one has (in various incarnations) without ever losing its steam or, judging by the bits I've seen of this current series, its sense of fun and originality. Wonderfully clever show. ♥

The switchover to the 10th doctor is done well, I think. I was worried too b/c I liked Nine so much but by the second ep of 10 you'll love him just as much. And Rose is so awesome as well. Especially if you watch her old music videos on YouTube and laugh, hee hee (she was like British Britney Spears in the late 90s/early 2000s).

YAY watch the show and start obsessing like I do!

That's become my feeling on the matter, too. ;) We're going to be moving through it pretty quick (since it's on loan from the library, we only have a week to get through the whole season!), but I'll try to post my thoughts as I go. I had a lot of fun doing that with B5 and, to my great shock, it seemed like other people enjoyed it, too. ;)

I'm glad to hear that. 9 has won me over completely, but I'm hoping to like 10 as well. And... oh, that's just too delightful to miss. I'll bother the housemates into looking that up later this weekend - it sounds like something that really deserves to be seen in a group. ♥

Whoops, somehow missed this comment earlier!

It does help that the seasons are short, though it also makes me very sad. ;) It's kinda tricky to get hold of the darned things over here, though - for seasons 1 & 2 we've been going through the local library, which requires going through nice long waiting lists. Once we get through 2, though, we'll have to wait for 3 to come out in the States, and then for the library to get it... and then hope we're enough on the ball that we can get ourselves onto the list before it gets insanely long.

...That said, so far it's been more than worth it!
