yet more random chatter

For Terra, and anybody else for whom the Fifth Doctor is creeping steadily upward in the ranking of regenerations. Personally, while I liked the Fifth Doctor himself very much, I found that his companions (Tegan and Turlow, in the one episode I've seen so far) made me want to chew upholstery.
The Fourth Doctor, on the other hand, just gets more and more adorable the more of him I see. We saw... "Resurrection of the Daleks" (the one with Davros) for the Fifth Doctor, and, I think it was called "The Ark of Space" for the Fourth. Sarah Jane is wonderful, and Harry is a very cute, stupid puppy so far. And the special effects, especially for "Ark of Space," were deliciously... creative. I have to admit, I would never have thought of using bubble-wrap as part of an actor's makeup appliance, but now? I'm totally adding it to my repertoire in case I ever need to make giant space-faring bug aliens that apparently walk on their butts.
You think I'm kidding about that last bit, don't you? I swear it's true. When we see their whole bodies, they only have six legs, up at the front of the abdomen... but they move around and menace people reared up, with all six legs waving around. They're standing and walking around... on their butts. XD
Anyway, I'm having a lot of fun with it. Anybody have recommendations of episodes that absolutely must not be missed? We're going through Scarecrow Video's collection, so there's no shortage of choices!

Date: 2007-08-28 06:26 pm (UTC)(You totally have to see some Four. He's a-freaking-dorable. You'll love him. He's like... Nine and Ten, all mixed up and wearing a curly mop on his head. And he has literally the silliest grin I've ever seen.)

Date: 2007-08-28 06:29 pm (UTC)I seriously feel like I HAVE seen Four before -- but sooooooo long ago that I barely remember any of it. XD I'm totally gonna nag Kari about having oldschool Who marathons soon, though♥

Date: 2007-08-28 06:36 pm (UTC)This led to the suggestion of such fascinating titles as "Hobbies of the Daleks" and "Bobble-hats of the Daleks." XD

Date: 2007-08-29 04:02 am (UTC)City of Death is considered to be one of the best Fourth Doctor ones. (Julian Glover is to die for as the villain.) I also liked Horror of Fang Rock, and Destiny of the Daleks has Four and Romana in matching his-and-hers Time Lord outfits. Win!
Mawdryn Undead is my favorite Five episode ever for obvious reasons. Planet of Fire is also lots of fun. And... it occurs to me I haven't actually seen a lot of Fifth Doctor. Hunh. Weird.
If you watch any Sixth Doctor, please remember that you are not watching it for the plot. You are watching it to watch people be silly. Because it is very silly.
And if you get to Seven, watch Paradise Towers (Seventh Doctor versus the 1980s!) and Battlefield (Alternate parallel history Arthurian legend versus UNIT!)
Er... I have more squeeing, but I'm sure that will do for now. :)

Date: 2007-08-29 03:54 pm (UTC)I'm planning on avoiding Six and Seven as long as I can, purely on the basis that I've found that no matter what I end up liking each Doctor... and I'm not convinced from what little I've seen that I want to like Six and Seven. Although I've heard great things about Seven as an actor, poor fellow. It's not his fault the producers decided to go for a darker idea of the Doctor when he was cast...
Squee all you want. I love the opportunity to geek about all of this. XD

Date: 2007-08-30 06:17 am (UTC)Seven is AWESOME. Don't believe the bad press; he's absolutely lovely. I mean, seriously, if you like New Who you'll totally be able to cope with the "OMG darker Doctor concept" of Seven.
Six is... broken. But hilariously so. I mean, I LOVE The Twin Dilemma, and it's really horrendously no-questions BAD, but it has Six running around flailing. And hiding behind Peri. And... flailing. Sigh.
I just re-watched Battlefield and it was glorious, so I'd like to re-plug that one. ;)

Date: 2007-08-29 08:22 pm (UTC)(And I totally need a Fourth Doctor icon. Whee!)
Key to Time. Okay, I'll have to remember that! Thanks!
