huge-ass fruit (and the caucuses, too)
Jan. 4th, 2008 08:57 amI'm at my desk, trying to eat The Biggest Apple EVER.
It's huge. It literally fills both of my cupped hands. And I would be thrilled with this, except ... that makes it damned tricky to eat, for a person of less-than-large size (and mouth). There's no way this thing could ever have comfortably grown on a real tree. And that makes me slightly nervous, I'm not afraid to tell you.
On a brief political note, I feel the need to state that I am pretty much entirely unenthused by all the Democratic candidates, and all the Republicans scare the crap out of me. I guess Huckabee beating Romney might be a good thing? I guess? And I suppose I'm disappointed by Obama beating Hillary, because lately he's seemed like less than the fantastic guy I originally thought he was, but... whatever. I haven't even figured out which of the Dems I'm voting for when my own state's caucus comes around next month. Bleh.
All I know is that I wish the US had rules limiting campaign seasons, like most countries do. This whole "three years for a single fucking presidential campaign" thing? Really not working for me. Familiarity breeds contempt, and it sucks more money than I can begin to imagine, as well.

Date: 2008-01-04 05:10 pm (UTC)You and me both, my friend. I was hating this whole election race before it even began. It's going to get hella dirty, let me tell you. ANd of course my parents like to keep freaking Fox News blaring every waking moment. Reeeally makes you glad there's 24/7 news channels... in the way that it doesn't.

Date: 2008-01-04 05:33 pm (UTC)As for Fox News, I am so sorry you have to put up with that crap. My dad and stepmom had the TV on when I was home last weekend, and I'm so unused to the rampant idiocy of network TV that it nearly drove me crazy.

Date: 2008-01-04 05:15 pm (UTC)However, it does work very nicely thank you so much for asking for the ultra-concentrated wealth in this country because nobody can campaign for more than, say, six months, without that kind of cash.

Date: 2008-01-04 05:35 pm (UTC)But then I said 'Fuck it. Every time you fix it, the money shells out unbelievable gobs of cash to break it again'.

Date: 2008-01-04 06:44 pm (UTC)Every time you fix it, the money breaks it again. It's one of the drawbacks of capitalism. ...Or one of the advantages, I guess, depending on where you're standing. (:

Date: 2008-01-04 06:33 pm (UTC)It's designed to help the power structure of the two main parties.
And since it's the parties that run their primaries, and then the two main parties that run the legislature that might pass laws that affect primaries if they can get past First Amendment objections, it's probably not going to happen in the near future.

Date: 2008-01-05 03:15 am (UTC)Actually, I was hoping that Romney would beat Huckabee because Romney is MUCH less likely in my opinion to actually be voted President than Huckabee is.
Is that one of the apples I put in your box? I got some too, and they may be huge, but they're really good.
