I'm at my desk, trying to eat The Biggest Apple EVER.

It's huge. It literally fills both of my cupped hands. And I would be thrilled with this, except ... that makes it damned tricky to eat, for a person of less-than-large size (and mouth). There's no way this thing could ever have comfortably grown on a real tree. And that makes me slightly nervous, I'm not afraid to tell you.

On a brief political note, I feel the need to state that I am pretty much entirely unenthused by all the Democratic candidates, and all the Republicans scare the crap out of me. I guess Huckabee beating Romney might be a good thing? I guess? And I suppose I'm disappointed by Obama beating Hillary, because lately he's seemed like less than the fantastic guy I originally thought he was, but... whatever. I haven't even figured out which of the Dems I'm voting for when my own state's caucus comes around next month. Bleh.

All I know is that I wish the US had rules limiting campaign seasons, like most countries do. This whole "three years for a single fucking presidential campaign" thing? Really not working for me. Familiarity breeds contempt, and it sucks more money than I can begin to imagine, as well.

You and me both, my friend. I was hating this whole election race before it even began. It's going to get hella dirty, let me tell you. ANd of course my parents like to keep freaking Fox News blaring every waking moment. Reeeally makes you glad there's 24/7 news channels... in the way that it doesn't.

It just keeps going... and going... and going... and the longer it goes the more irritated I get with the whole thing.

As for Fox News, I am so sorry you have to put up with that crap. My dad and stepmom had the TV on when I was home last weekend, and I'm so unused to the rampant idiocy of network TV that it nearly drove me crazy.

I pretty much have no respect for any of the News Channels. So I just kind of try to block it out by sticking my fingers in my ear going "NA NA NA I SO CANNOT WAIT UNTIL THIS IS OVER BUT THEN AGAIN NO MATTER HOW IT TURNS OUT PEOPLE ARE GOING TO BITCH I HATE POLITICS".

So then I leave the house.

However, it does work very nicely thank you so much for asking for the ultra-concentrated wealth in this country because nobody can campaign for more than, say, six months, without that kind of cash.

Exact-a-mundo, my friend. :P Funny how that works, isn't it? In the way that you want to run away and never come back.

Back when I was young and full of energy, it made me want to reform campaign law.
But then I said 'Fuck it. Every time you fix it, the money shells out unbelievable gobs of cash to break it again'.

Theoretically I think I'm still supposed to be in that young-and-energetic point, but I think I was born jaded or something. I just want to scrap the system we have and set up something where each candidate is allotted a (significantly smaller and totally equal) amount of money they can spend on campaigns, and that's IT. No more. No campaigning for big donations. None. Got a lot of money? Great, that doesn't qualify you for presidency any more than anybody else. Fuck off and do something useful with all that excess cash.

And how do we manage 527s, which essentially function as campaign and propaganda arms that claim no direct link to a candidate and thus the candidate not only has no limits on spending but no responsibility for what they say?
Every time you fix it, the money breaks it again. It's one of the drawbacks of capitalism. ...Or one of the advantages, I guess, depending on where you're standing. (:

Your last paragraph - so totally true! We need to limit it, badly. It's exhausting and expensive to the candidates and it doesn't help the voters either.

As near as I can tell, it does absolutely nothing except spend money and irritate the whole country. We need to limit the campaign season to a few months, and put a severe limit on the amount of money they can spend. That'll level the playing field, and if they damned well want to spend millions of pointless dollars, they can donate to something actually worthwhile. As it is, the whole thing is beyond pointless.

It's not designed to help the voters.
It's designed to help the power structure of the two main parties.
And since it's the parties that run their primaries, and then the two main parties that run the legislature that might pass laws that affect primaries if they can get past First Amendment objections, it's probably not going to happen in the near future.

Actually, I was hoping that Romney would beat Huckabee because Romney is MUCH less likely in my opinion to actually be voted President than Huckabee is.
Is that one of the apples I put in your box? I got some too, and they may be huge, but they're really good.

Yup, it was one of your apples and it was really tasty. It was just immense! I couldn't eat the whole thing, and then I felt bad 'cause it was so good. :D

Me too, honestly. They're both fricking scary, though.
