As I returned from Starbucks a minute ago...

CoWorker J: Heath Ledger is dead.
Me: Oh, no he's not.
CoWorker J: *Points to 'breaking news' headline on MSNBC*

Given our work environment, I don't think I can entirely be blamed for thinking this was a joke, but still, slightly embarrassing on top of the obvious "wow, that's sad." Even more sad? They're not saying it yet, but I'd put money on drugs as the cause.

Update: And, yes, we now have confirmation of pills everywhere. *Sighs* Of course. The most popular way to cut a brilliant career short.

And, hell, while I'm news-spamming...

Like global-warming and all the other stuff wasn't enough, now we're running out of dirt.

I liked him... he was a good actor, and, admittedly, cute. Not someone I would've expected to just randomly turn up dead from an overdose, either, but I guess I really didn't pay attention to anything beyond his acting. Bleh.

Yeah, I thought it was a hoax as well, especially given the journal where I first spotted the news. Then I saw it was for real and thought, "Well, shit."

And now the rumors are really going. Break-room gossip at my office is now that Ledger was found in Mary Kate Olsen's apartment and that they'd been having an affair.

That I won't believe until I see it on CNN or something equivalent. By which I mean "eew."

Apparently he had pneumonia--the pills could have been antibiotics or cold medication.

That's an interesting new development... sad to say, but when an actor of my generation dies, I just assume drugs. Gah. The whole thing is awful either way, but I think I'd feel worse if it turns out he just died, through no action of his own.

That sounds awful, but I can't seem to gather my thoughts well enough to explain right now.
