Here begin the days of the king...
Dec. 22nd, 2003 09:13 amFrom the ashes a fire shall be woken;
A light from the darkness shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.
At 12:30am (or so, give or take a bit of time for the requisite commercials and previews, including the preview for Hidalgo (!!!) which I will most *definitely* be seeing) last Wednesday, I was proud to see one of my favorite books come to stunning life.
To say I loved it doesn't quite take things far enough, I think. I was in awe for pretty much the whole three hours. I nearly broke poor Sean's fingers from squeezing them, nearly so many times I can't count the instances, and spent most of the movie with my mouth hanging open in shock and excitement.
I saw it again Friday night, and some of the total astonishment has worn off, of course, but I'm no less in love.
Had anybody else forgotten about the eagles? I had... I almost screamed.
Did anyone else find it amusing that the longest "angst" reaction of the entire movie, aside perhaps from Sam re: Frodo, was Legolas seeing Aragorn attacked by that cave troll?
Holy crap - SHELOB!!!!!!!!
Denethor disgusted me in all the right ways. I will not be able to eat cherry tomatoes for months, thanks to him. I very nearly lost my dinner while he was eating.
And I had the pleasure of having this conversation at the end of the movie: Random girls scream when Orlando Bloom's name comes up in credits.
Me: *shakes head* Fangirls.
Random Guy: Someday they'll realize that Aragorn is the man.
Me: *grins up at him, if didn't have own lovely wonderful date, might very well have kissed him* The smart ones already know that.
I left feeling the same thing I always do at the end of the book: "What do you MEAN there isn't more?????"
If an Oscar for best picture does not come of this, I shall be very angry with the Academy.

Date: 2003-12-23 12:10 am (UTC)Not going to happen. Nicole Kidman starred in a movie, therefore she gets all the attention. I seriously can't stand her, but they all seem to revolve around her. sigh.

Date: 2003-12-23 08:16 am (UTC)There should most certainly be an Oscar. I understand not giving the first two, but now I think they're going to be looking at the trilogy as a whole and just awarding the third movie. If that makes any sense.
*Goes back to rough BDSM werewolf porn*
