rivendellroseDoctor Who question meme... because I was bored at lunch, and because it's been going around like a good little meme does. Also because I found some of the questions amusing.
1. When did you start watching?
Last winter? Yeah, a little over a year ago... I remember I was still working at the bookstore when we started.
1a. Why?

nekokoban, I fell in love with Nine at first sight. Now I get to be snooty and say that I love the whole history of the show. ;)
2. What was your first episode?
"Rose", 1st episode of Season 1 of the new series.
3. Which episodes have you seen?
The entirety of the new series, plus... Assorted and sundry Fourth Doctor arcs focusing mostly on Sarah Jane and Romana's tenures, "The Dalek Invasion of Earth," the bits of "The Five Doctors" that didn't make me want to chew walls (ie, a few moments of Five and Ainley being cute and the whole punting scene with Four and Romana), umm... Time Flight, Castrovalva, Survival, and the Three episode where the Master summons a "devil." Probably others that I'm forgetting - I haven't been keeping proper track.
3a. Favourite?
I gotta go for multiple. "Dalek" for Eccleston's amazing acting and the absolute fantastic-ness that was that one lonely Dalek, "Blink" for being downright terrifying, "Genesis of the Daleks" for... umm... everything, but mostly for the fascist pants, the land-mine, and for Harry changing his entire outfit almost in-screen. "City of Death." Um. Everything?
4. Are your friends/family interested in the show?
A good bunch of my friends are. My mom, too.
5. Which Doctor is your favourite?
Nine. But he's closely followed by Four and Eight. And Five, and Ten. ...And Three. In roughly that order. XD
6. Which Doctor is your least favourite?
Experience has taught me to think of the rest more as "Doctors I haven't yet come to love."
7. Which TV companion is your favourite?
Romana, or Sarah Jane. Martha's a close third, and Liz Shaw was freaking adorable, but I've only seen one of her episodes so far.
8. Which TV companion is your least favourite?
ADRIC. I think a good part of my insane love for the Ainley!Master comes from clapping like a little girl every time he "turned off" Adric in "Castrovalva." I could have kissed him for that. ♥
9. Do you listen to the Big Finish audios?
Whenever they're available and I can convince the BBC online radio thing to accept my sadly American connection... I swear they don't like to let us play things. :P I've heard "Shada," "Storm Warning," and parts of one other with Charley.
9a. If so, which is your favourite?
Shada all the way.
9b. Also: which Big Finish companion is your favourite?
Romana. ;)
10. Have you listened to any non-Big Finish audios?
Unless I've dreadfully mistaken who made "Shada," no.
10a. If so, which is your favourite?

11. Have you read any of the novels or short stories?
A handful of the Ninth and Tenth Doctor novels (Uhh... "The Clockwise Man," "The Stone Rose," "Voyage of the Damned," something I'm forgetting, and the one about the Neanderthal. Which, as an anthropology student, made me want to strangle someone. I won't even talk about the "Paradise Planet" one - I had to stop it two chapters in, it was that bad.), and the Eighth Doctor... er... the one about the yacht race. Can't remember the title right now. I also read a bit of the novelization of "Destiny of the Daleks," but decided that I didn't like it in the least. Too bad, since I like the episode quite a bit.
11a. Have you written any of the novels or short stories?
...Uh, no. And if I ever meet the folks who wrote some of the above, I have some finer points of cultural anthropology and/or human evolution that I'd like to discuss with them.
11b. Which is your favourite?
The Eighth Doctor one, I suppose. To be honest, I generally think novelizations are pretty much published crap.
12. Have you read any of the comics?
Nope. Not a comics person, generally.

Yeah, both.

Oh, probably... y'know, that's kind of an apples-and-oranges thing. I don't think I can compare them.
14. Is there any particular episode/book/audio/comic you desperately want to watch/listen to/read?
I'd love to hear "The Apocalypse Element."

Oh boy... let's see. Rich's Ten Doctors comic amazing, as are BabelColour's videos. I'm partial especially to the tributes to Nine, Eight, Ten and Five. Oh, and the Master. XD

Nope.
5. Have you ever dressed up as a Doctor Who character?
If I ever manage to get the clothes together, I'm going to NorwesCon in Seattle (eep, next month!!) dressed as Romana.
6. Do you own any Doctor Who merchandise?
Sonic screwdriver and two Daleks - one for home and one for work. ;)
I also have a little rag-doll of Ten (and frequently steal my roommate's doll of Four), and have homemade stencilled t-shirts of the Tardis, and of a Dalek.
7. Are you a fan of Russell T Davies?
I appreciate him for bringing back the show and for some of the things he's done. Others, I would like to have words with him about.

9. The UNIT dating controversy?
Is definitely about whether or not Mike Yates and the Brig were shagging, and whether or not Sarah Jane knew about it, and whether or not she and Harry ever talked about it after shagging. Nothing at all to do with what years the episodes were set in. ;)
10. The Blinovitch Limitation effect?
The whose-amo-whatsit thing?
11. Multi-Doctor episodes?
With exception of "Time Crash," I've only seen "The Five Doctors"... and it kind of sucked aside from using the punting footage from "Shada." So... meh. I reeeeeeeally want a multi-Doctor "movie" of the Time War, though. Think about it! Eight... Romana... the Master... Nine... and Daleks. It's automatically awesome!
12. What's your favourite Doctor Who technobabble?
Reversing the polarity of the neutron field, of course.
13. Have you watched other TV shows exclusively because of the presence of Doctor Who actors?
All four seasons of "Coupling" after finding out Steven Moffat wrote them, plus "Casanova" and "The Second Coming" for Tennant and Eccleston respectively.
14. Have you met any of the actors?
Alas, wrong continent.
14a. Travelled to any filming locations?
See prior comment about continental issues.
15. What do you think of The Curse of Fatal Death?
Jonathan Pryce = the win as the Master. ♥ Also, Rowan Atkinson was surprisingly perfect as the Doctor. ...And Hugh Grant reminded me of Ten. :P
16. Do you have any fannish opinions that you think are fairly unpopular?
I think Ten is far less attractive than Nine, Eight, and Four. Genuinely, honestly, truly. I like him as a character, and I think Tennant's a very good actor, as well as thinking that Tennant himself is quite attractive (it's the sweet geeky vibe, I think... and the scruffle), but I just can't work up a good attraction to Ten. It's a bit odd. Perhaps even ood. But there it is.
17. What's your favourite pairing?
Doctor/Romana (especially with Four, Eight, and Nine), Tardis/Doctor (always&forever), and Sarah Jane/Harry/Doctor.
18. What pairing(s) won't you touch with a really long pole?
Doctor/Ace, anybody/Adric, Doctor/Susan... probably Six/anybody, but I might someday get talked out of that.
Also, I am told frommahala_lj that today is Valen's Day. (With props to sir_eldoran for the idea, and apologies to non-B5 folks). Unfortunately, I can't yet think of a thing to do about this. Still... ♥

I'm not the biggest Valen fan in the world, but I tend to agree with you. Much as I occasionally like the idea of Valentine's Day (minus the commercialization), it's not kind to perpetually single folk like me. I think it's been... oh, a good five years at least since I had a date on that cursed day. ;)
