lunchtime distraction - a meme!
Apr. 21st, 2008 01:38 pmThis meme contains spoilery references to stuff from Second Doctor canon (does it still count as spoilers if it happened before I was born? I figure I'll stay on the safe side...) but none for the current series that I can think of. Borrowed from
livii...
1. Are there any characters you've never written but want to?
Lots, actually. *g* I really want to write the Fifth Doctor, the Master (especially Ainley!version, but also Simm), Teagan, Third Doctor, Tish Jones... oh, and also Myfanwy. She's adorable! *Hugs the pterodactyl*
2. A fandom worst nightmare.
Honestly, I think my worst nightmare in Who fandom is that someday they'll get around to bringing back Romana, but they'll do something weird to her character and I'll end up hating her. Or doing something that really made me end up hating the Doctor, rather than just occasionally wanting to smack him. Or someone gimmicky getting cast as the Doctor. "Gimmicky" in my mind includes anybody from a major fandom (especially anyone even tangentially associated with Harry Potter), as well as casting a woman. I love the idea of having more female Time Lords around (not just Romana!), but the whole "what if the Doctor regenerated as a woman" thing strikes me as a set-up for a whole lot of "now he has to learn how to do his HAIR!" kind of misogynist, gender-stereotype idiocy. And more bad writing than the average episode of Torchwood, gods save us all.
Another option for fandom nightmare of the moment is the next X-Files movie sucking even more ass than the last one. But that last is less a nightmare and more a "oh, this is totally going to happen, isn't it?"
On a whole different level, I have an awful feeling that the new Star Trek movie is going to somehow revive my pre-adolescent crush on Mr Spock. How scary would that be?
3. What do your favourite characters have in common, if anything?
I like academics and intellectuals, I like outsiders, I like people with something they're ashamed of in their past, I like people who are skeptical, rational, and clever. I like people who are sarcastic and witty. I like realists. I like flaws. I like characters I think I could get a beer with and hang out with and really be friends with in real life. Oh, and I like 'villains' who think they're doing the right thing and are 'human' in the sense of having real goals and reasons for the things they do. Of course, I also like the Master, so... It's all in the interpretation, sometimes. ;)
4. Five stories you wish someone would write.
I guess I'll count these, even though in one way or another I'm trying to write all of them.
1. The real UNIT 'dating' controversy, written as a classic romantic comedy.
2. Harry Sullivan isn't really dead... the Eighth or Ninth Doctor just kind of forgot him on some far-off planet. Oops.
3. The touching love story of the Master's Tardis and the Doctor's Tardis. Romeo and Juliet, eat your hearts out. :P
4. Some really good Five/Ainley!Master. No specifics in mind, I just really want to see someone do that pairing justice. ♥
5. Something dealing with the way Jamie was left at the end of season 6. Because now that I've seen him and read the spoilers on Wiki, I am traumatized, guys. Seriously - Culloden!!! The Council are meeean bastards.
5. If you were only allowed one fandom to read/write and generally be in, which would it be?
Doctor Who, no question. There's nothing to match it for the sheer amount of canon to work with, and the amount of different stuff a person can fit in if they so desire.
