It seems that my thumb-drive has officially doinked itself. Damn it!

I like my thumb-drive. It is a nice thumb-drive, and it was a present from [livejournal.com profile] zinjadu's dad. But now the silly thing thinks that it is write-protected and won't let me save over files on it... which makes writing just a teensy bit tricky. I can still access the content, but I can't add to it. Not very helpful.

...I wonder how much memory is available on a decently-priced thumb-drive, nowadays? In the lemons-to-lemonade category, I ought to at least be able to swing an upgrade out of this, I suppose...

Also, why is it that ALL my library holds always come in on the same day? I really need to get over there and pick stuff up.

Decently priced? I think you can get a couple gigs for $10 at this point. It's kinda ludicrous.

No way to toggle the write-protect setting? That's lame.

I just have a thumb drive that my laptop won't recognize, which makes writing in front of the teevee impossible. Stupid laptop. *shakes fist at universe* Soon, soon I will be able to replace Broken, and then I'll have two functioning computers, and it will be awesome.

Oooo.

I keep messing around with the one little toggle that I've found, but... it doesn't seem to get me anywhere except a different error message. One way definitely gets me "this device is full or write-protected" while the other gets "cannot save due to a file permissions error." Same end result --> can't save file.

Functioning computers.... ah, I remember what that's like. ;) Soon, soon.

(Speaking of "soon," roommate and I keep walking past an Afghani restaurant near us, and trying to figure out if we know people who'd want to eat there with us. I think you mentioned liking Afghan food... any chance I could lure you north with the promise of tasty dinner and crash space sometime?)

Afghani food? *perks*

*goes to check if Afghani food is veggie friendly at all*

It should have vegetarian options! We're looking at Kabul in Wallingford - it's right up on 45th and Sunnyside, if I remember my streetnames correctly.

Cool beans. *looks up Afghan cuisine on Wiki* I should be able to find something.

Er, sorry for sorta trying to invite myself.

No worries! We'd love to have you along! I have no idea exactly when we're doing it, but I'll keep you updated. *g*

I've been there once - it was a bit pricey, so not great for regular trips, but it was tasty.

Yeah, that's about what I figured. I've wanted to try them out for AGES, though, so it'll be worth it!

Dude. So there.

It would also be awesome to lure my roomie [livejournal.com profile] liviapenn up too, but she works Saturdays. Hmm. I suppose there will just have to be multiple trips, especially now that my car will be working.

(I'd drive us up after she gets home from work on Saturday, but we both work from 1-10pm, so I'm not sure you'd want us to drop in at 2am. ;)

Yay!

Hmmm... Yeah, 2am might be a bit early for us... we're all boring 9-5ers, now. ;) I can't think of an easy way around that, unless Sundays work for you guys? We probably wouldn't be able to stay out that late, though.

I can totally drive up on Sunday morning and drive back Sunday night. I just have to get the timing right--I can't for the next three weekends, for example. (On call, Renn Fayre, and wine country tour) But, um... Memorial Day weekend? I even have that Monday off.

Let's see... so May 25th? I don't see why that wouldn't work for us! I'm not sure if I have that Monday off or not, but at the very least that'd mean you wouldn't have to go to work early after the drive.

Lucky you, lots of fun stuff coming up! Aside from the on-call day, at least. ;)

Woohoo!

Hee, yeah. I don't really mind being on call, because usually nothing happens, but it does mean no partying and no leaving the Portland/Vancouver/Camas area. Waah.

Yeah, I got 128M for around 5$ (I no longer have any idea what the dollar-to-euro rate is). If it's just for writing and not mp3s, it shouldn't be a lot.

My current one is 256M, I think, and I got it... wow, back in like 2004. So I can probably get 2G or higher for the same price, now... which would be great. Having room for pics and mp3s and all that would be really really nice.

Thumbdrives are getting cheap.
Especially since you don't need a lot just for carrying around text documents. 1GB is seriously overkill for your needs, but it looks like they don't make 'em smaller anymore ;) But considering my 64mb cost me 50$ in 2003 or so...

Well, I use my current one for carrying around images as well... and music, when I can get away with it. Considering the price, I might as well just buy a gig or two, and have enough storage to, say, bring audio books to work. Since my work computer hates CDs, I haven't been able to listen to any for a while. :P

I was looking around to see if my 2GB drive is still around, and it looks like there's one with twice as much memory for the same price. Yay for Newegg.

FYI, I've had mine for about six months and have never had problems.

o_O That drive has as much memory as my mp3 player. My mp3 player that cost over $100 a few years ago.

Ye gods computer memory moves fast!

Thanks for the tip! I'm sooooooooo ordering that!

Did you look at the other sizes? They have 32GB drives for $130. You could carry your entire image and sound library probably. Not that you'd want to but ... drool!

A 2g is on it's way to you. I wrapped it up and will take it to the post office tomorrow. I bought a 2 for 1 deal at Costco a while back and I certainly don't need 2 of them, so you are welcome to the other. I wish I had thought of it while you were here this weekend, I could have sent you home with it.
