Courtesy of cleolinda: Keira Knightley is 'My Fair Lady': "The new film will use the original songs of the much-loved Broadway show, and will not alter its 1912 setting, but Kenworthy and Mackintosh intend where possible to shoot the film on location in the original London settings of Covent Garden, Drury Lane, Tottenham Court Road, Wimpole Street, and Ascot racecourse. The filmmaking team will also look to adapt Alan Jay Lerner's book more fully for the screen by drawing additional material from Pygmalion--George Bernard Shaw's play that served as the source material for the musical -- in order to dramatize as believably as possible for present-day audiences the emotional highs and lows of Eliza Doolittle as she undergoes the ultimate makeover, transforming under the tutelage of Professor Henry Higgins from a Cockney flower girl to a lady."

I'm... happy? But... I'm.... wait.... Damn it, I don't know! I just don't know! Should I be happy that they're making a remake-movie of one of my all-time favorite musicals or... be sad that they're remaking my favorite musical? Should I be vaguely sad because I only really like Keira Knightley when she's dressed as a boy, or should I be happy because, really, she's one of the few people I can think of who's as pretty as Audrey Hepburn?

And most importantly, who will they get to play Higgins??? And will I ever recover from the disappointment of them not casting Anthony Head?

The answer to that last question is most likely "no." The others are all still complete mysteries to me... although for the moment I choose to be cautiously optimistic? And also to think about what pretty costumes they will no doubt get. Mmm.... pretty costumes...

...I really hate Keira Knightley and honestly think she cannot act her way out of a paper bag. :( Plus I don't think she's that pretty. *sads*

Oh well, it can be like the new Pride and Prejudice: non-existant.

(Edit: After I got offline for a bit I realised this was quite a fail comment. Sorry! For my sake, I'll hope they re-make it with someone else and for both of ours that it's pretty with good singing.)

Bah, don't worry about it - I used to hate her, too, I just sort of... got used to her, I guess, during the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, and came to kind of like her (much to my own shock and slight horror).

I've been ignoring the new Pride and Prejudice, too - nothing will ever be as good as the Colin Firth vesion. ;) And that'll probably be the way this new "My Fair Lady" will be for me, too - I've seen it as a play, but I always come back to liking it best with Audrey Hepburn and Rex Harrison. I can't imagine this will surpass that, but I'll enjoy seeing what they do with it nonetheless.

I haven't seen "Bend it Like Beckham" yet, but... having seen a few pictures, I'd have to say that it might count. I'll let you know after I've seen it. ;)
