Could someone please explain to me why, according to the Seattle PI, it is apparently colder here than it is in Siberia right now.
No, seriously.
Right now, it's 50 degrees F. It's supposed to warm up a bit later this week, but... for crying out loud, it's June!
50 F isn't a bad temperature, per se, but it's not summer weather. And back in May it topped in the 80s!

Date: 2008-06-11 06:19 pm (UTC)(The cold is because of a low pressure system just north of Hudson Bay that's dug itself a nice little niche and is pulling air down from the arctic. The same system's causing all the tornadoes and flooding across the states and western/central Canada, because that's what cold lows do. But, uh. That's probably not all that helpful. *geeks out*)

Date: 2008-06-11 06:30 pm (UTC)The tornadoes here in Canada are pretty small (capable of blowing over a few fences, that's all) so far this year, which is good. Enough to have people panicking, though! I can understand that. I've never been in a flood or a tornado or anything particularly crazy (apart from that one time with the baseball-sized hail, which was scary).

Date: 2008-06-11 06:46 pm (UTC)The funny thing to me is the things we all get used to, and how much the other stuff freaks us out. I have no trouble with the probability of earthquakes (had a 6 back in high school) even living amid a decent number of volcanos (St Helens and Rainier are both in my general area, plus a few others that are more on the inactive side), but when I traveled to Hawaii a few years ago I nearly panicked when a tropical storm came in and I realized I wasn't tucked away safe in Puget Sound anymore! Weird, the things we get used to.
