Folks who've been around this journal for a while remember that I used to live in a slightly junky old house across from a very creepy old school. Which, incidentally, my paternal grandfather went to elementary school at. Well. Over the weekend,
maymargaret and I walked through the old neighborhood, and lo and behold, there was yellow "CAUTION" tape all over the entrance to the playground at the school. "Ah," thought I - "The city must finally have noticed that playground is getting pretty ragged and closed it down. But wait... what's up with the big semi trucks in the parking lot? And... is that a trailer?"
It was. Three of 'em, actually, with big old signs on the side proclaiming they're from Vancouver... which is the nearest film-industry town to Seattle. We talked to the two techies who were messing around with one of the big RVs, and sure enough - they're film crew. There is a movie being filmed at the old school.
The guys we talked to said it was a Robin Williams movie, which... unless they were kidding us would possibly make it this. I'm completely at a loss as to why anybody would film in my neighborhood (although I admit, the school is nifty looking from the outside, and probably moreso inside), given that if they just filmed in Vancouver they'd have all the infrastructure of a city with a full film industry, but... hey, no complaints from me. I might just have to pop by the old place a few times in the next few weeks, just to see what I can see. Pity this didn't happen before last summer - I could've just walked across the street and brought the crew cookies and stuff. ;)

In other news, I went to the weekly salsa dance thing downtown this weekend, and it didn't go nearly as bad as it could have. I'm still looking forward to swing night, though - at least with swing I'm a lot more comfortable with the basic steps, to the point of even knowing some of the fancy stuff, rather than just having a knack for letting the lead, well, lead. Good fun, though, even if my feet did hate me for it by the end.

Date: 2008-07-15 12:48 am (UTC)if you still lived in that crappy house you could have strangers swarming all over the street for WEEKS. Doesn't that sound EXCITING.
