So, apparently CERN's Large Hadron Collider is starting up on Wednesday. I have a sort of a morbid desire to have a "Black Hole Party" to celebrate - if only I'd realized ahead of time how close it was! We could have required all-black outfits and made up astronomically-themed cocktails.
I love when people proclaim impending doom surrounding specific incidences. It's always hilarious to watch the whole thing go all y2k on them and fizzle out into history.
...That said, am I right in thinking that Torchwood's audio is supposed to be released that day, and themed around the same collider? That ought to be... exciting... for some definition of the word, at least. ;)

Date: 2008-09-08 09:19 pm (UTC)Yes! Ooo, a Higgs Boson party. I wonder what that would consist of... drinks that might or might not exist? Or maybe just might or might not be alcoholic... ;)

Date: 2008-09-08 09:24 pm (UTC)"Hey, if that drink didn't exist, then I can have another one!"

Date: 2008-09-08 09:31 pm (UTC)"Hmm. I don't think I've achieved a sufficient body of evidence that these drink are actually alcoholic. What we need is a double-blind study. Somebody get the blindfolds!"

Date: 2008-09-08 09:24 pm (UTC)Yeah, you could play something similar to Russian roulette with the alcohol levels in the drink. Not sure what teh dress code would be though.

Date: 2008-09-08 09:30 pm (UTC)Yeah, I'm stuck on the dress code, too. But a friend here at work pointed out we could put my cat in a box. XD

Date: 2008-09-08 09:34 pm (UTC)Well, people could go as elementary particles, not sure how that would work for most of them, but quarks (and anti-quarks) have colours right?

Date: 2008-09-08 09:38 pm (UTC)Ooo, can I remember them? Up, down, left, right, and... charmed and strange? My chemistry lab partner and I nicknamed ourselves Charmed and Strange, because... well, "strange" probably applied equally to both of us. ♥
(Shoot, I'm wrong. The Wikipedia article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quark) says it's Up, Down, Charmed, Strange, and Top and Bottom. I guess chemistry really was a long time ago, for me...)
I'm dumb. I just saw that they have color *and* flavor. Nifty!

Date: 2008-09-08 09:53 pm (UTC)How about an encompassing LHC party, come as something from which ever project you think is teh coolest - then even teh string theorists will be happy, strangely dressed, but then so would everyone be :)
But still, now I want it to be wednesday so much. How much does it suck that I have half a day of Physics tomorrow, and only 35 minutes on wednesday!

Date: 2008-09-08 09:59 pm (UTC)Lol. Your class schedule sounds really complicated to me - in the US, most people don't get that kind of nutty schedule until university. The worst we had at my high school was remembering if it was an "A" day or a "B" day (two sets of classes, alternating).

Date: 2008-09-08 10:21 pm (UTC)Just realised we can flavour the drinks like quarks, I so want this party now, maybe I can convince one of my physics teachers (failing that maths)to let me bring in LHC thmed cakes or something.
It's beter now, now I only have 4 main subjects, one optional subject, and they have to fit in a lesson of general studies and PSD (personal, social development), where as previously I had something like 12 subjects timetabled. I think I'd die of bordom if I had the same subjects of alternate days!

Date: 2008-09-08 10:35 pm (UTC)Guava should figure in one of the flavors. It's such an odd-tasting fruit. Oh, and lychee!
We had 8 subjects, 4 per day, so... yeah, it got a bit tedious sometimes. And if you don't like a subject, 85 minutes is a long time to sit in one class... but it was nice for the ones you liked, at least. I liked my university's scheduling much better - only 3 courses at a time, but a lot more variability in scheduling, and walking between locations like you're doing. It makes life a lot less boring.
In fairness to the US system, I should say that "private" (public in the UK) schools over here at least sometimes have systems like what you have. I went to a school like that in New Hampshire for a while, and we only had 3 classes, with a large campus to walk across and a lot of mixing up the schedule. It's just the state-run schools that are boring, probably. ;)
(...My attention span = nil today, apparently, I should add that I was there for summer courses - only 3 classes was not a normal course-load for that school!)

Date: 2008-09-08 10:49 pm (UTC)Well I'm at a state school, it's a grammar school which means it's selective, but it's still state run. My friend at another school used to have such a complex timetable, they would have alternate weeks!
I was going to say, 3 lessons ?!?

Date: 2008-09-08 10:55 pm (UTC)I imagine the alternating weeks thing would get really confusing sometimes. I still have nightmares that I've had a class that I for some reason forgot to go to...
Yeah, that probably wouldn't work so well, at least not until university...
