could *definitely* be a little more sonic
Oct. 21st, 2008 01:53 pmLast night was a bit of a comedy of errors. The minute I got home from work I set to cleaning the fish-tank - got about half of the old water out (that's as much as the buckets I bought will let me handle at a time, and really probably about as much as I could carry at a time anyway), and decided I'd scrub out the algae before putting the new in... but couldn't find the scrubby-thing I bought for the tank last week. I looked everywhere, and I just know it's going to turn up in my sock drawer tomorrow, but of course I couldn't let the fish languish with only half of a tank of water... and anyway, I had a bucket of new water sitting on my floor, and the cat was upset at being locked out of my room while I went through all of this. So I ran out to the fish-store (thank goodness they're open late!) and bought a new scrubby, then ran back and scrubbed out the algae, cleaned some of the plants and rocks, and got all of that settled. Then I had a bit of dinner, and settled in to start putting together my new bookshelf from IKEA.
First off, I have to say - I'm completely unnerved by the instruction booklets with NO WORDS. It weirds me. I know it's a good idea for international stuff, and the pictures they have are perfectly good, but... it's weird to me. But we got on just fine, up to the point where we realized we were hammering little tacks into the shelves (er... using my wrench and one of my screwdrivers as hammers, because we couldn't find K's hammer) into 10:30 at night, and perhaps the downstairs neighbors would not be so happy with us for that. So I'll be finishing that up tonight... and then going through the fabulously fun process of trying to get it into my room and correctly positioned.
I love this kind of project - really, I do; it makes me feel all accomplished and happy, doing something with my hands. That said? I still had a few wistful moments imagining 'if only I had a real sonic screwdriver...'
Oh, and K and I agreed that everything about building/construction terminology sounds dirty. "Putting up shelves" is now our new favorite sexual euphemism. XD
