a little note on height...

After a few "interesting" hiccups in which I messed up the relative height of some pair of the Doctors, I thought it might be useful to go through and actually write down all their heights from IMDB. (Obsessive? Who, me?)

Anyway, here's the list, if anyone is interested. It's... rather amusing, IMHO.

1 Hartnell (none listed)
2 Troughton (none listed)
3 Pertwee - 6'3"
4 Baker - 6'3"
5 Davison - 6'1"
6 Baker - 6'
7 McCoy - 5'6"
8 McGann - 5'8"
9 Eccleston - 6'1½"
10 Tennant - 6'1"

I was going to compile a similar list for major companions, but so far the only one I can actually find a listed height for is Elisabeth Sladen at 5'4". Still, the more you know, er... the less likely you are to inadvertently claim that Eight was a good deal taller than Seven, like I did in a recent fic. Oops.

Lol. That's one of the great things about being short - a guy has to be tiny not to have at least a small margin of height on me. ;)

Pertwee was 6'3"? good god o_O i also have to wonder about Seven's height, because i remember that story about that publicity photo of him standing with Eight, and they had to tilt the picture sideways to make Eight look substantially taller.

my favorites, of course, being Four (a.k.a. 6'1" in first grade- that can't be true, can it?) and Eight (the shortarse).

I'm thinking right now of Douglas Adam's story that teachers used to tell the other students to "meet under Adams" when they were out on school trips. ♥

That said, I expect a bit of silly exaggeration in both stories... ;)

I distinctly remember getting flamed when I wrote an Eight/Sarah story, because I claimed that from Sarah's perspective, Eight was 'tall.' I went and tracked down their respective heights and shoved them down the flamer's throat.

So you're not the only obsessive fanwriter out there. *grin* In fact, you're in very good company! (And btw, I'm lumping you in with me, not with the flamer.)

Being an inch shorter than Liz, I can attest that 5'8" is tall from the perspective of a person our height. Even in heels, she's probably no more than 5'6".

I'm just happy I looked them all up before I pulled something similar with Five - never in a million years would I have guessed him at 6'1"!!!

I was dumbfounded when I looked at stills from Mawdryn Undead and realized that Five and the Brig are about the same height. I mean... *flail*

Then again, you really can't always trust IMDB's heights. For the Who actors they're probably fine, but my favorite--David McCallum is listed as 5'10", and Joanna Lumley is listed as 5'8". Ahem.

I do, too! I was absolutely certain I had her in my head as 5'3", but now I can't remember if I'd gotten her height confused with Elisabeth Sladen or not, or where I'd picked up the info if I had actually seen it somewhere. :/

Can't find anything conclusive, but from looking at a bunch of pictures, I might put her at about 5'5"-5'6". She very consistently stands about 6 inches shorter than Tom Baker in pictures, but in a few pictures she's about 9 inches shorter--those likely the ones where she isn't wearing heels.

I also found a set of pictures where one can indirectly compare her to Colin Baker, and she appears to be about 5.5-6 inches shorter. I'm guessing from her appearance in those that isn't wearing tall heels.

For some reason I imagined Eccleston was loads taller. TV does tend to skew things a bit.

I think his slouchy-posture does a bit of it, too - if a guy that lanky is slouching, one sort of assumes he's compensating for excessive height.

...That said, 6'1" isn't exactly short. I'd just figured him for up there with the giants Pertwee and Tom. XD
