Piss off, Texas Board of Education.

Quotes: Texas schoolchildren will be required to learn that the words "separation of church and state" aren't in the Constitution and evaluate whether the United Nations undermines U.S. sovereignty under new social studies curriculum.

The board rejected language to modernize the classification of historic periods to B.C.E. and C.E. from the traditional B.C. and A.D., and agreed to replace Thomas Jefferson as an example of an influential political philosopher in a world history class.

The extent to which this disgusts me cannot be fully expressed.

Although dismayed, I should say this:
I have no objections to schoolkids learning that The Founding Fathers extensively discussed and supported the idea of the Separation of Church and State, but because of crazy conservative (and largely southern) factions had to leave that and their distate for slavery out of the Constitution.

Stuff like this is exactly why Texas has NEVER been on my list of possible states to live in.

Entirely agreed. There are parts that are nice and safe from stupidity other than the state-level stuff (or so I'm told by friends from Austin), but otherwise... yeah.

On behalf of my entire family in Mexico: no thank you. Mexico has enough issues without throwing Texas at them.

I also posted this article this morning.

It's appalling what's happening in states like Texas and Arizona.

We watch half an hour of local news and then half an hour of American news every weeknight so I saw this already a couple days ago.

It is both extremely aggravating and scary in it's backwardsness
