I'd forgotten the kinds of crazy disappearing acts kittens can do when they're scared.

See, I wanted to take a shower. Which required locking our boys in the office, and removing Little Dudette from her Safe Place in the bathtub. (...Side note: Our apartment's bathroom has almost zero ventilation, so we have to keep the door open while we shower if we don't want it to totally fog the tiny bathroom.) We thought if we moved her carrier (where she's been sleeping) with her in it, she'd probably be okay because she could always retreat to the carrier where she feels safe. Unfortunately, we did not do what I now realize would have been the sensible thing and put her in the bedroom and close the door behind her. Instead, we put her in the living room.

The living room, which is a total mess because we've been putting up shelves and things. Boxes everywhere, etc.

Apparently, I had no sooner gotten into the shower than [livejournal.com profile] ninjascript realized he didn't know where kitty had gone.

So now, missing kitty. I keep having this vague, uncomfortable sense that I've dreamed her and she was never here to begin with, except there's still a makeshift litter box in the bathroom, and there's a kitty carrier with a towel in it in the living room. I'm right now so freaked out that I just caught a moth moving out of the corner of my eye and jumped, thinking it was her. Understandable, as [livejournal.com profile] ninjascript pointed out - "she's about the size of a moth."

Updated: Found kitten behind drawer in bedside table. Took apart drawer to get her out. Returned her to her carrier/house in the bathroom. Let boys out. Going to bed. Hallelujah.

Aw I'm glad you found her. Sneaky cat! Once I couldn't find Freya, our younger cat. I looked all over for her, which isn't tough in this apartment, but couldn't find her anywhere. Finally Billy saw a paw sticking out from the bedframe on our spare bed. She had gotten in under it, but couldn't get back out. We rescued her, and then made sure she couldn't get back in there.

Oh, kitties. When Lucy first came home, we kept her in our spare bedroom for a couple weeks so she could acclimate. She also happened to be an extra skittish kitty, so I knew she liked to hide.

However, when I went back in and couldn't find her ANYWHERE, I started to worry. I mean, I looked under the bed and in the closet (that wasn't even open!) and in all the hiding spots I could think of, and nothing.

Until I finally found her, BETWEEN the two trundle beds.

It was her favorite hiding spot, until she discovered the cozy shelf in my closet, and hid there and didn't make a peep even when I waved my hand and foot in the closet, and looked all over the house, and worried that she had somehow gotten out.

Oh, kitties.

Responding to your earlier post about sexing cats. When my current cats first came to live with me, they were six weeks old. The lady who gave them to me assured me they were female. So I named them Morgan and Linnet (that's Linnet in the icon). Then I took them to the vet for their first checkup. Everything went great until the vet said, "you'll have to bring the boys back when they're six months old so I can neuter them." I said, "what?" But the names were already solidified in my brain, so I have two male cats named Morgan and Linnet. Which wouldn't be so bad except that up until Linnet got old and started having health problems (they'll be 17 this summer), he was a very masculine, chunky-style cat. So I call him Mr. Linnet most of the time [g].
