And with the addition of the latest actor rumored to play the voice of Smaug, the complete cast and production design list for "The Hobbit," comes just a few people away from needing to be retitled "Almost every fandom that [livejournal.com profile] rivendellrose loves most working together on a single project just this once."

Yeah, sure, it's only a rumor - but I squeed so hard I think I scared the cat.

Please, please, please PJ? Can we please have this rumor be true? I promise to be a good little geek and stop making nasty comments about how you'll probably make it too dark and serious, if you just make this one little casting choice the truth... ♥

Hmm. Awkward, though - I'm pretty sure they're missing one casting choice that was confirmed on TheOneRing.net a few weeks ago, which... makes me wonder about the validity of their "rumors." Siiiiiiiiiiiigh. But, still, a fangirl can hope!

...I'd better go do some of the work I swore I'd do tonight. My sideline projects have all decided to collide at once, lately. Oops.

...Wow, I literally saw that and said aloud, "Oh, please, that would be so awesome." DON'T SHATTER MY HOPES AND DREAMS BY PROVING THIS JUST A RUMOR, PJ. I think from now on Nimoy will be my headcanon for Smaug's voice. FOREVER.

INORITE?♥♥♥ The instant I read it, it was like... well, quite a bit like the first time Martin Freeman was suggested as Bilbo, actually. A moment of stunned shock followed by the realization that no one else would ever be right in the part, ever, no matter who it was, EVER. HE IS THE VOICE OF SMAUG, END OF DISCUSSION. All shall love him and despair know the glory of The Voice.

So, are we talking about David Tennant or Leonard Nimoy?

I approve of both...actually, I prefer over Leonard Nimoy over the previous Smaug rumor...Bill Nighy...and once you've sung a song about Hobbits, shouldn't you get cast in a film about them?

Nimoy! Although I am deeply amused at the idea of the Doctor playing Legolas' daddy. There's just something... cosmically wrong about that. Or perhaps right. I haven't decided yet.

And yes, I was very upset by the whole Bill Nighy rumor. I love Bill Nighy, of course, but his voice is... just not right for Smaug. But Nimoy... ♥!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought of that... I've had it stuck in my head ever since I read the entry on IMDB. Yeesh.

I've been wibbling about this ever since I heard Richard Armitage and Martin Freeman had been cast. With each successive name added to the list ... *wibbles like a wibbly thing*

I've... been alternating between squeeing and sulking. Some part of me is absolutely determined that PJ is too serious, he'll do it too dark and gritty, and it won't have the... wonderful whimsy that Guillermo Del Toro would have brought to it. But, then, PJ is still a very good director!

And then I get all caught up in not being sure whether or not I should disapprove of the addition of whoever-the-heck Saoirse Ronan's character is meant to be. I'm all for the idea of adding female characters to a movie that would otherwise have had not a single one, but... at the same time, it seems wrong to add a character in randomly, and I worry about how it'll be handled. It's frustrating.

I am very scared of this movie. To be honest, I don't plan to see it until I hear some very positive reviews, if it even actually ends up getting made.

I know what you mean, yeah. It's... I keep going back and forth. On the one hand, I get really really excited. But then on the other, I get kind of sulky and upset and don't think it will go right. So... we'll see. I'm sure I'll be in the front lines going to see it, so I can at least assure you that you'll have a review from me, good or bad! ;)

*flails*

Oh, dude. IF THIS IS TRUE... *FLAILS MOAR*

SRSLY HE WOULD BE PERFECT!!!

And now I will forever more think of his voice as Smaug whenever I re-read the book.

It's funny I hadn't even thought of the VA for Smaug for this movie, but seriously he's just perfect for it. *dances*

I really hadn't thought of it until a while ago when Bill Nighy was rumored - I was very against that idea, but totally at sea to suggest someone better. And now - Nimoy? PERFECTION. ♥

Bill Nighy? Uh, wow, I'm glad I hadn't heard that rumor until now. Nothing against the man but as the voice of Smaug? No. No thank you.

Nimoy is totally perfection! I mean I honestly can't think of a better VA, not even James Earl Jones!

I don't care who gets cast for what - I'm just glad my LOTR fandom is back. I have so missed checking TORn a million times a day. *sigh*

I know, me too. I feel like kind of a nutball for still being disappointed that Guillermo won't be directing, but PJ is good, and it will be good, and more than anything it's fun to be back in that fannish zone. ♥
