So, after seeing yet another of those "Hey, we're tired of Tumblr fandom's shit" and a lot of people commenting with basically "I would love to go back to Dreamwidth/LJ but it doesn't seem to be active," I decided, well, hell, if that many of us feel that way maybe we should just flipping try to post here again. Because hell yeah, I'm sick of a medium that doesn't allow the kind of conversation that made me interested in fandom to begin with.

So anyway, this is me, putting myself out there to say hey, I'm still here! I would totally still be here all the time if other folks were still here, too!

As far as fandom stuff goes, I'm mostly just waiting with bated breath for Star Trek: Discovery. Will it almost certainly disappoint me? Yeah, now that Bryan Fuller isn't leading it anymore I'm resigned to the fact that after the first few episodes the amazingness may taper off and I might not actually like it, and also it is going to be a giant return to the usual Klingon obsession, which is sad. But freaking Doug Jones is playing an alien regular, Michelle Yeoh is playing a Starfleet captain, and Sonequa Martin-Green is the lead character. I can't miss the possibilities represented there, even if they wind up not being quite everything I'm hoping for.

Also, Moana and Arrival were both fabulous movies. And gaslightgallows is currently doing a fantastic job of dragging me back into our old Minbari headcanon universe. She also got me the Crimson Peak artbook for Christmas and it is flipping gorgeous.

I'm still here. Or back here, since I haven't been around much myself this year and have been trying to get back into habit of posting on DW.

Good to see you! ♥ I'll make an effort to see if I can't remember to post and read on DW for a while. Try to get back into the habit, as you said. It's nicer here than Tumblr, I think--at least nicer for the way I like to engage. I never got the hang of commenting much on posts there, or making my own. On LJ/DW I felt like I could post whatever I wanted, but on Tumblr I start to write posts and then feel like no, why would anybody care about that? It's silly.

That's how I felt about Tumblr as well. I tried being active there because that's where the B5 and The mentalist fandoms mostly are, but I just felt like I didn't have much to contribute since I don't do gifs and such.

(plus the Mentalist fandom on Tumblr is pretty toxic unless you ship the juggernaut pairing - which I don't - so that didn't inspire me to stick around either)

Yeah, I have to admit that the times I've tried to post fic there it's been kind of like "Okay... I went to all the effort of a cover image and posting and tagging and everything and... I don't actually think I got any more readers than I would have from just posting it quietly to Ao3 like I normally would."

I have had some nice people reblog some of my random fan art, which was very sweet, but... yeah. Not generally being a person who makes gifs and whatever really cuts one out of Tumblr fandom. It's all so visual. And I don't feel like I can really do the meta particularly, because it just... I don't know, it tends to just feel like it gets swallowed in an empty pit. Whereas on LJ/DW, even if I didn't have a million comments I felt satisfied after posting my meta or whatever here.

Eugh, the toxic fandom stuff. Yeah, that shit is scary. I don't know why people get so riled up and weird about pairings.
