Assorted questions that are swirling through my mind in the lead-up to tonight's Discovery episode.
- Does the mirror!Discovery have a spore drive?
- Where/who is mirror!Stamets?
- Where/who is mirror!Ash? (This question largely raised by the fact that I suspect the Klingon we see Ash fighting in the trailer for 1x11 is not mirror!L'Rell but in fact mirror!Voq.)
- Was mirror!Burnham raised by Vulcans as people seem to be assuming, and how the hell would that work in this universe, if so? (For the record, I don't think this makes any sense and if they go that route I will expect some shockingly solid explanations for how it was allowed to happen. Way more solid than the hand-waving "her parents trusted him" bullshit that we got for why prime!Burnham was allowed to be plucked up to be raised by the nearest Vulcan diplomat for no apparent reason. Did neither of her parents have any living relatives? Does Earth not take responsibility for its underage citizens? What the hell?)
- Does mirror!Sarek still manage to be as much of an asshole as the prime one, or is he actually nice because mirror?
- Where/who is mirror!Saru? I can see a few possible directions for this, but all of them would need to account for the fact that the Terran Empire is unlikely to think much at all of a prey species. Either he's a useful tool for them, he's a rebel, or his species is 180'd as well as himself. (I am still sort of hoping that instead of Saru we will get a member of the Kelpien predator species, played by Doug Jones in different makeup, as someone on Spacefungusparty suggested some time ago. But I doubt that will happen.)
- Why have we waited until now to see Andorians? This seems like an odd choice, but... I guess I shouldn't complain.
- Will any of the Andorians actually have speaking lines, after all this waiting?
- Did Ash actually put Lorca into a functioning agonizer booth, or did he find a way to quietly disconnect a few wires or, like, set it on display mode or something?
- Is "our" Lorca really from the Mirror Universe? (I don't buy this theory, personally, but it's popular enough that I feel the need to call it out.)
- Exactly how floaty-glowy-magic is it going to be when Stamets inevitably saves Culber? I'm not even sure I care as long as we get Culber back, but I do hate floaty-glowy-magic as a plot device, in general. This time they've set it up from early on so maybe I'll have to just accept it. (The alternate solution, obviously, is for them to steal mirror!Culber, but that seems... like a bad idea.)
- When Philippa turns out to be the emperor (because she so is), exactly how traumatizing will this be? They are giving me the one thing I've begged for since the pilot. That alone makes me highly suspicious.

All signs point to yes.

Reply hazy, try again later.
Also: It is going to be *extremely* traumatizing when Michael is forced to kill the emperor who is of course Philippa, and as for Sarek... even in the real world, orphans are often raised by family friends instead of relatives.

Date: 2018-01-14 07:29 pm (UTC)Clearly this is my version of all the people who refused to admit that Ash was Voq. I see the evidence, I just can't seem to make myself believe that evidence is strong enough!

I KNOW, RIGHT? I've already come to grips with the fact that this is going to happen (because, basically, it's the worst possible thing that could happen and therefore of course it will), but... show, I am still recovering from the first time you killed Philippa Georgiou. I'm not sure I can handle it happening again, even for what will I'm sure be very good cause!
as for Sarek... even in the real world, orphans are often raised by family friends instead of relatives.
It's true. I think I just have problems with it because Sarek. Because really, that dude unduly screwed up his own biological children, and now we're cheerfully handing over other kids to him as well?

You can't handle it? Michael's the one who's gonna have to do it!

He hadn't finished screwing up his biokids yet, had he?

Date: 2018-01-14 10:41 pm (UTC)I kind of like that idea, but I am with you on not liking the whole "fixed with glowy space magic on the astral ascended plane" stuff. If you're gonna do that, why kill the guy in the first place? Booooring. So I hope the epic amount of handwavium that will obviously need to be involved here comes more in the form of technobabble Starfleet medicine or Mirrorverse selves or...something...instead.
I guess we'll see!?!

Date: 2018-01-14 10:56 pm (UTC)Yeah, I'm hoping for pretty much anything other than floating and glowing. Crossing fingers for that.
