vancouver bc
Sep. 2nd, 2018 02:13 pmWe're thinking of taking a trip to Vancouver, BC, in early October.
So far we're planning to visit the Capilano Suspension Bridge and associated park, various things in Stanley Park (including the Seawall walk), Van Dusen Garden and Bloedel Conservatory, Granville Island Public Market, Gastown, and the Museum of Anthropology at UBC, and we're considering the UBC botanical gardens and the Beaty Biodiversity Museum at UBC. Are we missing any must-sees? Hiking or walks are highly desirable, as are cultural like museums. Don't care much about shopping unless it's the "ooo, interesting stuff we probably won't buy!" kind; not interested in a whale watch tour.

Date: 2018-09-02 11:08 pm (UTC)(We did go kayaking in Monterey, but we were like "Actually, we have whales at home" when it came to any of the whale watching offers.)
I would know more about Victoria sights than Vancouver--may need to write down the list you already have for next time I'm in Vancouver myself!
Also, welcome to Canada. :D How long are you thinking of visiting for?

If you like delicious food, by which I mean DELICIOUS MEATS, I highly recommend L'Abattoir. It made me happy to have stopped being a pescatarian. If they still have it, the banana daiquiri is amazing and not what you think it is (spoiler: it had a smoky whisky float).
G (who used to go to Vancouver weekly for months for work*) also recommends The Flying Pig, which I don't remember as much about, but I'm pretty sure I liked it, too. (My trip to Vancouver with G was apparently all about the food.)
In Chinatown, there is a fance tea shop I can't remember the name of, but if you want to browse tea that is way to expensive to consider buying (I'm saying this as someone who used to drop like $200 a month at Teavana in the day) there was a tea shop there that I couldn't even comprehend. Like, $1000/oz for some of their fancy teas.
*And an expense account. Neither of these places are "budget."

I'll be interested to see what you think of Discovery once you've watched it - I personally found it hit a lot of the same buttons as late-series DS9, but it's pretty different, too, and therefore (of course) divisive. I think it's headed to good places, though.
