A bit of a general update, with a little of everything.
First, a HAPPY BELTANE!!! to anyone else who celebrates, and a HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! to
gin2001, who is now 21 but whom I spastically forgot to say anything to until yesterday. *Big hugs*
Last night was the Hansee Hall Ball, and several of my friends and I attended and had a wonderful time - lots of good music, refreshments, and happy dancing. Then today,
zinjadu and I went to A Midsummer Night's Dream, performed by the Seattle Shakespeare Company. It was a lovely, hilarious production with a fifties highschool turn - Theseus as the principal, the rustics as janitors and the like, etc. Kari recognized one of the actors as a teacher here at the UW, and all the performances were fabulous - the Oberon definitely had borrowed from John Travolta's performance as Danny in "Grease," and it was delightful. He was so cute that Kari and I briefly considered kidnapping him, but decided it'd be too difficult to pull off. Besides, we would have had to share him with pretty much every girl we know. ;)
Tonight, I'm skipping a karaoke run so that I can (theoretically) get my homework done... there's too much to leave it all for Sunday, sadly. With luck, this means I won't have to spend all day tomorrow segregating myself into constant reading and writing. I've got to memorize my part for Measure for Measure, too.... *shivers* We have a memorization test on Thursday. Too bad the lines for this aren't big speeches - I memorize those a lot more easily than little dialogue bits.
Lastly, I felt the need to share this. I know I bitch a lot about my seminar class and the readings we have to do... but I may not have fully expressed to people what a beautiful writer Mr. Du Bois was. From a passage in Darkwater, describing his paternal grandfather:
Beneath his sternness was a very human man. Slyly he wrote poetry,--stilted, pleading things from a soul astray. He loved women in his masterful way, marrying three beautiful wives in succession and clinging to each with a certain desperate, even if unsympathetic, affection.
Whenever I feel a rant about how much this class pains me coming on, I should just pick up one of his books and read a passage like that - such use of words makes everything worthwhile.
ETA: And, because I said this post would have a little bit of everything... some RP whinging. On behalf of my dearly beloved Cissa, I'm very sad tonight. Just now, I've seen her condemned. It's going to be a bit of a sad life for her, I think.
What can I say? ......It's canon. Moreso than what I've had in the other two games, possibly, depending on who you talk to. But still... alas.
